If you are complete rookie then all you should focus on is balance, keeping yourself upright and not falling over. This might take a few attempts however stick with it!

Most water ski training centres also offer courses in wakeboarding too if water skiing is not of interest to you. Water skiing always involves at least three people. One of them is you the water skier, another is the boat driver and the other a spotter to basically observe you. Their job is to make sure you are ok and communicate with you via hand signals. The hand signals will be taught to you before you leave so you know what they are. If you fall over then the spotter will be able to tell the driver so the motor boat can be stopped and you can be sorted out back in position to go again. If you feel you are in trouble at any time then you should signal the spotter.
