La Manga has many great restaurants alongside of the beach with plenty of fresh fish on the menu. The sardines are speciallity and are extremely flavorsome. There are a few street markets in the nearby towns and villages. The best one is on a Sunday at Cabo de Palos, you will find some good deals at this market.
La Manga has a very good temperature throughout the year. The months of July and August can get very very hot. The airport at Murcia called San Javier is the closest but there is also a second which is not far, this is in Alicante. Flights come from all over Europe into both airports daily.
La Manga is the perfect place for a holiday for the sportsman, there are many wonderful golf courses, the best are at La Manga Club. Tennis, football and cycling are also available to be played at this resort.
La Manga is on the Costa Calida which has many excursions that can be taken, one of the closest towns is La Lorca where during the week of holy week celebrations take over the whole town, it is a wonderful place to visit during that week. All the residents are cheery and welcoming. There are many trails and paths leading to the top of the nearby mountains to La Manga. One path leads to a tiny town called to La Union which was originally a mining town. There are some beautiful buildings, a guided tour can be arranged to see the whole of the town. Tours can arranged at the tourist office which is located in the town hall. The town hall is also worth a visit due to the fact shows and concerts are held there daily.
Another great place to visit is Los Belones which is very lose to La Manga Club Resort, in the village there are many great restaurants, local craft shops, there is also a little market which sells fruit and vegetables. There is a great selection of shops and department stores in the local town of Murcia. There is also a great selection of museums and galleries to see.
The region of La Manga has very fertile soil and is the perfect place to grow lemon and orange trees, throughout the town there are fields of the fruit trees. The farmers supply the many ports of Spain with their produce, the rest is imported to Europe.
La Manga has many festivals and holy processions throughout the year, the main one being the Epiphany, when the kings came to give gifts to Jesus and the orphan children.
