Luxury Spanish Holidays at La Manga Club
Tennis at La Manga Club31st January 2008

La Manga Club was recently named as the "best" choice of Spanish holidays for "sporty types".

According to the Telegraph, the resort is only 30 minutes drive away from Murcia airport and caters to adults as well as children wishing to improve their skills in tennis at its "excellent" tennis centre.

As well as attracting famous footballers and golfers, La Manga Club is frequented by many tennis stars and is the winter training base for the Lawn Tennis Association.

The Lawn Tennis Association is the governing body of tennis in the UK.

Spain is a producer of top tennis stars, such as David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Rafael Nadal - currently considered to be the most dominant clay court tennis player in the history of the sport - according to some commentators.

The player has reached the semi final of the 2008 Australian Open and won the French Open in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Producing such tennis greats, it is only natural that Spain itself boast impressive tennis playing facilities.

La Manga Club is viewed by many professional and amateur players as the ultimate Spanish tennis resort.

It benefits from a fantastic Mediterranean climate that sees British tennis players visit in the winter months in order to continue their training in temperate conditions on floodlit courts.

In addition to hosting prestigious tennis events such as ATP Tournaments, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup La Manga is the official training centre of the Bavarian Tennis Federation.

Holidaymakers and professionals can choose from 28 tennis courts with all surface preferences catered for, from clay courts - of which there are 20 - to four hard courts and four AstroTurf courts.

Coaching is available for those on a tennis holiday on Spain at both adult and junior level.

There is no need to feel intimidated either, as an informal Welcome Day on Sundays gives guests the chance to make the most of free tennis games and ice-breaking sangria.

Weekly tournaments and friendly matches are also on offer for those who want to try out the skills they have picked up on their tennis holiday in La Manga.

Perhaps the inseparable and beautiful connection between tennis and Spain can be summed up by a recent report on tennis ace Maria Sharapova's turnaround in form during her stay in the country.

The Herald Sun reported that Sharapova had been considering an extended break before heading to Madrid in November 2007.

However, the publication noted that upon her arrival the one-time Wimbledon champion "thrived" and regained her passion for the sport.

Tellingly, it was not only on court in Spain that Sharapova shone.

"I felt like a lot of things had come together and the off-season was great. I was able to work on the court; I played a lot of tennis; I had some fun times; I had a great holiday with my friends and family," the newspaper quoted her as saying.
