'Save money' on holiday in Spain
British travellers have been offered a series of money saving tips to help them make the most of their holidays in Spain.

According to Tucan Travel, holidaymakers should plan a strict budget before leaving and shop around for the best currency conversion deals.

Bec Whiffin, general manager of the company, said that Britons were not sacrificing their holidays as a result credit crunch; instead she suggested that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of their spending.

"People are becoming more savvy with their money and are looking for ways to stretch their pounds further," she explained.

'More sand' for Spain's beaches
Spain's environment ministry has announced plans to replenish the sand on a number of the country's most popular beaches.

According to Euro Weekly, new sand will be deposited on Malaga's beaches over the next two years, at a cost of approximately 5.6 million euros.

It is expected that 13 million cubic metres of sand will be divided up between 14 of the beaches on Malaga's coast.

Holidays in Spain 'still popular'
The summer may be coming to an end, but Britons are still travelling to sunny destinations such as Spain, it has been revealed.

Figures released by the Post Office last week suggested that European holiday destinations are as popular as ever, despite the strength of the euro.

The organisation revealed that sales of the euro are currently six per cent higher than last year, with demand for the US dollar also on the increase.

Commenting on the figures, Helen Warburton, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: "The euro and US dollar are continuing to sell extremely well, despite the weakness of sterling and foreign currency sales are up collectively across the board.

Alicante prepares for Volvo Ocean Race
The event itself may not be taking place until October 11th, but already Alicante is preparing for the Volvo Ocean Race.

According to the Costa Blanca News, preparations for the race begin tomorrow (September 23rd), when the daughters of King Juan Carlos officially launch two Telefonica yachts in the port.

Organisers are expecting in excess of one million people to visit the race village, where a number of events will be taking place daily in the run up to the competition.

Around 5,000 boats are expected to sail into the port on the day of the event as spectators clamour to see the fleet of racing yachts.

Leave technology at home and 'enjoy a holiday in Spain'
Britons should use their holidays in Spain as a time to relax and unwind, without the having to worry about interruptions from the workplace, it has been suggested.

Carmel McCarthy, PR manager for More Tha>n, said that holidaymakers should leave mobile phones and laptops at home when they travel and make an effort to relax as much as possible.

"If you can walk away from your job, try and do so. It's really important to get those two or three week breaks in," she commented.

Dance the night away on holiday in Spain
Britons staying in Murcia over the coming week will have the opportunity to soak up some culture at the one of the region's most popular festivals.

Taking place from September 19th to September 20th, the Roots Music Festival promises to keep holidaymakers of all ages entertained.

The action takes place at the Plaza de Romea and features a host of talented musicians and performers from across the region.

According to What's On When, visitors can expect music and dancing, as well as a traditional market selling a variety of food, craft pieces and jewellery.

Celebrate the past in Murcia
Holidaymakers staying at La Manga Club will have the opportunity to learn about Spain's history at the Carthaginians and Romans Festival, which takes place in the Murcian city of Cartagena this week.

The ten-day festival - which runs from September 19th to September 28th - is a unique event celebrating the rich history of the region.

Visitors attending the festival can expect to see historical re-enactments, fireworks displays, parades and circus performances.

The festival opens with the igniting of a "sacred fire" and promises to keep holidaymakers of all ages entertained.

Half of Britons book holidays 'independently'
Almost half of Britons book their holidays independently, according to new research.

A study carried out by Mintel revealed that 47 per cent of holidaymakers booked their own flights and accommodation over the last year.

Furthermore, the research found that 42 per cent of holidaymakers opted for package deals, while 11 per cent used went for a mixture of both.

Holidaymakers staying at La Manga Club can book their flights to Spain with a number of providers including Ryanair, bmibaby and Jet2.

Holidaymakers urged to 'buy travel insurance'
Holidaymakers taking a break in Spain this year have been urged to buy travel insurance.

The warning comes after a study by YouGov revealed that up to 14.5 million Britons plan to their travel insurance costs in a bid to save money.

Commenting on the findings, Chris Rolland, head of insurance services for American Express, said: "If it is a case of people cutting back on travel insurance in order to afford their holidays then perhaps they should think twice before booking.

Increase in searches for flights to Spain
An increasing number of people are using the internet to search for flights to Spain and other popular destinations, one organisation has claimed.

Flight comparison site Skyscanner.com has seen its visitor numbers rise by more than 35 per cent in the last 12 months, as holidaymakers beat the credit crunch by shopping around for the best deals.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and chief of business development, said that despite the current economic climate, Britons were still taking holidays.
