Holidays are 'the last thing to go'
During times of economic downturn, holidays are often the last thing to go, it has been claimed.

Speaking earlier this week, Sean Tipton, a spokesman for the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), suggested that despite the credit crunch holiday bookings were still looking strong.

Brits 'don't like' budgeting
When it comes to taking holidays in Spain and other destinations, the majority of holidaymakers say they don't like to stick to a budget.

In a recent survey carried out by American Express Travellers Cheques, 83 per cent of people said they were not planning to stick to a budget on their next holiday.

Of those surveyed, 45 per cent said they end up blowing their holiday budget if they spot something they like, while ten per cent said they often shop in airports just to "get rid" of foreign currency.

Commenting on the findings, Kirstie Bayley, director at American Express Travellers Cheques, said: "Whilst people have started thinking about their next holiday already, they often forget to plan ahead when it comes to travel money and it's the last thing they are going to want to worry about once they get abroad.

Ryanair announces new flights to Spain
Budget carrier Ryanair has announced plans to increase flights to Spain over the coming year.

The airline already operates regular flights to Malaga from a number of UK airports and it will now begin flying from Glasgow Prestwick, London Stansted, Birmingham and Edinburgh, Homes Worldwide reports.

Ryanair estimates that an additional 240,000 passengers per year will travel to Spain on these new routes, including 100,000 from Birmingham alone.

According to the reports, the airline was experiencing strong ticket sales for the routes just days after announcing them.

British holidaymakers 'on the increase'
The number of British people taking holidays in Spain is on the increase, it has been revealed.

Recent figures released by the Costa del Sol tourist board revealed that between January and September of this year the area's hotels provided accommodation for more than 820,000 Britons.

These figures represent a six per cent rise on the same period in 2007, clearly indicating that holidays in Spain are still popular with Brits, Typically Spanish reports.

Almost half of the people arriving in the south of Spain travel through Malaga airport, which is served by a number of British airlines including easyjet, bmibaby and Ryanair.

Mijas to host food event
Visitors to Spain will later this month have the opportunity to sample some of the finest food on offer in the country.

Kicking off on November 17th, the Mijas Week of Cuisine is a celebration of food and an opportunity for visitors to attend presentations and brush up on their cookery skills.

'Foreign Chefs in Spain' is the theme for this year's event and organisers are expecting Danish, Spanish, Chinese and British to attend the event.

Taking place at Ciomijas catering school in La Cala, the festival offers those taking holidays in Spain the opportunity to partake in cookery workshops, sample fine wines and pick up some tips from the experts.

Workaholic Brits 'need holidays'
With national stress levels soaring and Britons working longer hours than ever before, taking regular holidays in Spain and other relaxing destinations has never been so important.

A recent survey carried out by Friends Provident revealed that 61 per cent of Britons are feeling more stressed out and prone to illness than ever before.

Furthermore, it seems that millions of workers are failing to make use of their full holiday entitlement.

Of those surveyed, a third said they were unable to use all of their holiday allowance due to work pressures.

Enjoy 'fine dining' at La Manga
One of the main attractions of a holiday in Spain is arguably the opportunity to sample the country's fine food and wine.

A poll out today revealed that overworked Britons are more in need of holidays than ever and for those looking to escape and have their every need attended to, a holiday at La Manga Club in Spain is just the ticket.

Once the sun has set and the golf clubs and tennis racquets have been put to rest, guests can tickle their taste buds with a meal at one of the resorts many exclusive eateries.

With the resort home to more than 20 bars and restaurants, there is certainly no shortage of choice and visitors can sample them all by dining in a different one every evening.

Cut hire car costs with 'eco-driving'
Holidaymakers hiring a car in Murcia can dramatically reduce their fuel costs by adopting eco-driving techniques, it has been claimed.

Bob Millard of the Driving Standards Agency suggested that drivers could reduce both their stress levels and their costs by driving in a more economic fashion.

"Adopting eco-safe driving techniques, drivers will be safer, with a reduction in the risk of accidents, and their journeys will be less stressful," he commented.

Puppet festival promises family fun
Families taking holidays in Spain this winter should have no problem keeping the little ones entertained.

Taking place throughout November and December, Alicante's annual International Puppet Festival promises to keep everyone thoroughly entertained.

According to events site What's on When, visitors will be entertained by acts from across the world, with puppeteers travelling from as far away as Argentina and Russia.

Over 30 performances have been scheduled to take place over the course of the festival.

Pianists take centre stage in Marbella
Talented musicians from around the globe are set to descend on Spain next week for the first Marbella International Piano Festival.

Running from Wednesday November 12th to Friday November 15th, the festival aims to promote the arts and raise money for charity, sur.com reports.

The festival will feature performances from talented Spanish pianists, along with entertainment from musicians as far away as Taiwan and Venezuela.
