Insurance is 'a must' for holidays in Spain
Britons taking holidays in Spain and other destinations this winter have been urged to buy travel insurance before leaving.

The call comes after a recent study by the Fair Investment Company revealed that millions of Britons are putting themselves and their families at risk by travelling without insurance.

Figures revealed that 24 per cent of people regularly travel without insurance.
Rachael Stiles, a spokesperson for the organisation, said the figures were very "concerning".

Holiday sales 'on the up'
The people of Britain are responding to the credit crunch by packing their suitcases and jetting off to warmer climes, it has been suggested.

One travel agent claims that its sales have risen by over 200 per cent in the third quarter of 2008, compared to the same period last year.

Celebrate Food Week in Mijas
People taking holidays in Spain will next week have the opportunity to sample dozens of Spanish delicacies, as one of the Costa del Sol's premier food events gets underway.

Taking place from November 17th to 21st, Mijas Food Week is a celebration on Spanish cuisine and the perfect excuse to tickle your taste buds and sample the work of local chefs.

Now in its 18th year, Mijas Food Week features participants from Marbella, Fuengirola and other surrounding resorts, as well as local wineries.

Meanwhile, those staying at La Manga Club can tickle their taste buds closer to home by dining out at one of the resort's many restaurants.

Alcazaba to reopen in December
One of Andalucia's most popular cultural attractions is set to reopen next month.

The ancient Alcazaba, which is located in Antequera will reopen on December 4th, Euro Weekly reports.

Alcazaba has been closed to the public for over two years while restoration work has been taking place, with work on costing more than seven million euros.

Over half of the money was spent reinforcing one of the fortress' walls, while excavation work has also been taking place.

New parks planned for Alicante
Those taking holidays in Spain may soon find the country has become a lot greener, with plans in place to create 12 new national parks in Alicante.

Alicante council announced last week that the parks will be created over the next ten years, occupying around 12 million square metres of land, the Costa Blanca News reports.

Parks will be situated in a number of locations including Saladares, Porquet, Serra Grossa, La Vallonga and Las Atalayas – and will no doubt become new attractions for those locals and people enjoying holidays in Spain.

Pop couple holiday in Marbella
British rapper MC Harvey and his partner Javine Hylton have been soaking up the sun on a family holiday in Marbella.

The pair were pictured in the Daily Mail taking their eight-month-old baby daughter Angel for a stroll down one of the resort's beaches and making the most of the fantastic weather.

Looking happy and relaxed the couple walked arm-in-arm along the beach, even stopping to share a kiss for the cameras before heading to a nearby cafe for an ice-cream.

According to reports, the pair have had a turbulent time of late, although they now look to have put their differences behind them, perhaps helped by their holiday in Spain.

Girls Aloud star 'longs for life in Spain'
Holidays in Spain clearly aren't enough for Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding. The singer has reportedly expressed a desire to up sticks and move to the south of Spain.

According to celebrity magazine Now, Sarah has fallen in love with the up-market resort of Marbella and is now hunting for a property in the area.

Tired of the dreary British weather, the stunning singer wants to move somewhere she can keep her tan topped up all year round.

Spain is 'top country brand for families'
Spain has been named as one of the world's best country brands for families.

According to the 2008 Country Brand Index (CBI), Spain is the second-best destination after Canada.

The CBI is a comprehensive study of around 2,700 travellers and countries are branded and ranked according to a number of different criteria.

Commenting on the findings, Rene A Mack, president of Weber Shandwick's Travel & Lifestyle Global Practice, said: "With the current state of the world - economic turmoil, political unrest and global warming - it's always fascinating to see which countries come out on top in branding themselves, generating global recognition and fuelling the travel and tourism industry.

Malaga terminal to open next year

Holidaymakers taking flights to Spain next year may find themselves arriving through Malaga's new airport terminal.

Spain's minister for development - Magdalena Alvarez – is hoping the terminal will be completed within the first six months of 2009 and in time for the peak holiday season.

The new terminal, which features 86 check-in desks and 20 new departure gates, will be connected to the old terminal building, sur.com reports.

Newlyweds opt for 'mini-moons'
Gone are the days of newlyweds jetting off to the Caribbean to take a three-week honeymoon, instead an increasing number of couples are opting to take short breaks or 'mini-moons', a new study has revealed.
Research carried out by esure found that more and more British couples are choosing to take a short break after their nuptials and go on a longer holiday the following year.

Of those surveyed by the company, 17 per cent said they simply could not afford to take a long honeymoon after paying for a wedding.

It's interesting to see how trends have changed over the years.
