Holidaymakers 'cut costs' and go all-inclusive |

 All-inclusive holiday bookings are on the increase, as British travellers look for ways to cut costs, it has been found.
Reluctant to give up their holidays altogether, Britons are looking to save money by cutting down on food and drink expenditure.
Figures from travel company On the Beach show that all-inclusive bookings for 2009 are up by 43 per cent on 2008, with half-board bookings rising by 26 per cent.
Self-catering bookings for the same period have dropped by 18 per cent.

Brits will 'safeguard' their annual holidays in Spain |

 British people will do everything possible to safeguard their annual holidays in Spain and other destinations, it has been claimed.
Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for the Association of Travel Agents (Abta), said that the majority of Britons were reluctant to give up their annual holidays, despite the credit crunch.
Ms Tuke suggested that instead of cutting out holidays, travellers were looking at other ways of reducing costs, such as opting for all-inclusive breaks and taking holidays in Spain and other destinations that are served by budget airlines.
"Of course with all-inclusives you can budget up-front very well.

Experience 'La Carerra' on holidays in Spain |

 Kicking off on December 30th, La Caretta is a traditional Spanish festival held in the Andalucian town of Cogollos de Guadix.
The festival involves the gathering of wood for a large bonfire, which is set a light in honour of baby Jesus.
According to What's on When, locals spend the first day of the two-day event chopping wood, before bringing it down from the mountains in a wagon decorated with ribbons, oranges and religious pictures.
Once the wood has been unloaded and the bonfire set alight, locals and visitors dance the night away in front of a statue borrowed from the local church.

Holidaymakers reveal 'biggest irritations' |

 Children kicking the back of plane seats is the biggest source of irritation to travellers, it has been revealed.
A survey by online travel site TripAdvisor found that people who block plane aisles and recline their seat are also considered irritating.
When it comes to annoying tourists, Americans top the list, followed by the French and German, the Telegraph reports.
Commenting on the findings, TripAdvisor spokesman Luke Fredberg said: "The notion of 'travelling for pleasure' can be a total farce when you're surrounded by passengers who seem intent on making their presence felt - be it with a boot in the back or an elbow in the ribs.

'Best' age for holidays is 34 |

 The age at which we have our most memorable holiday experiences is 34, according to a new study.
Research undertaken by tour operator Kuoni, found that 34 is the prime age when it comes to holidays.
Figures suggest that people in their mid-30s are able to enjoy their holidays in Spain and other destinations more because they have a large disposable income and know what they want from their holidays, the Irish Times reports.
Martin Conway, professor of cognitive psychology at the University of Leeds, told the newspaper: "Thirty-four is an age when a lot of people are thinking about nesting, so they are either likely to be enjoying those last holidays with freedom or perhaps taking their young children on a first holiday abroad.

Brits opt for short-haul holidays |

 Holidays in Spain and other short-haul destinations are set to increase in popularity over the coming year as holidaymakers shun long-haul travel.
Speaking last week, Graham McKenzie, managing director of TravelMole, said there was likely to be an upsurge in short-haul holidays and claimed that European destinations look set to be the "winners" of 2009.
"If we believe everything we hear in terms of the credit crunch then I think people will start to look carefully at where they go in terms of long haul. I think they will certainly look carefully at the [long distance] destinations like the Australasia region and the Far East," he commented.

See the 'Three Kings' this Christmas |

 Anyone lucky enough to be on holiday in Spain over the New Year will have the opportunity to see the annual Three Kings Procession, which takes place on January 6th.
One of Spain's most popular events, the Three Kings Procession marks the day on which Spanish children traditionally receive their Christmas presents.
Crowds of locals and visitors line the streets as the kings make their way through on horseback, dishing out sweets and gifts to children as they pass.
According to What's on When, the parade in Alicante travels thorough the Plaza de Los Luceros, Avenida de Alfonso el Sabio and Rambla de Mendez Nunez, before stopping outside the city hall.
