King Juan Carlos plans Ronda visit

People who are spending time in Tajo during their holidays in Spain this week could catch a glimpse of royalty on Thursday.

Spanish King Juan Carlos is set to attend a ceremony at the Real Maestranza de Caballeria where grants will be given to students, according to the Euro Weekly News website.

This visit to the Royal School of Cavalry will be the king's third visit to Ronda. The last time he was in the area was 11 years ago when he attended the bullfight Corrida Goyesca.

Waterfront revamp planned for Torrevieja

Renovation in Torrevieja is moving ahead with new plans for development in a bid to attract those enjoying a holiday in Spain, according to a local official.

Mayor Pedro Angel Hernandez Mateo announced plans to revamp the local waterfront as part of a larger plan to boost tourism in this area of the Costa Blanca, reports the Euro Weekly News website.

Speaking on local television, Mr Mateo explained that the new development in the Salinas area would span some 7,000 square metres.

This is the latest plans by the local government to make the area more attractive to people on holidays in Spain.

People visiting Torremolinos in Andalucia during their holidays in Spain are able to enjoy an "authentic" experience.

This is according to the British Airways Highlife magazine, which listed the area among its 50 most authentic places on earth.

Four decades of "mass tourism" have not crushed the true Spanish soul of Torremolinos, according to the publication.

It states that the "bustling" town continues to evolve, with fashionable architects admiring the high-rise hotels, dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, in Torremolinos.

Historic ship to be reconstructed in Malaga

The first delivery of timber that will be used for the life-sized reconstruction of the historical Galveztown has arrived in Malaga.

Work on the construction of the replica brig, which will measure 20 metres in length, started earlier this year.

According to the Euro Weekly News website, 20 tonnes of American live oak was delivered in Malaga, with a further 220 expected for the project.

The Galveztown holds special significance for the people of Malaga, as the original was commanded by local man Bernando de Galvez in the 18th century to capture Pensacola Bay in Florida.

Malaga Christmas light switch-on

People enjoying holidays in Spain this year have the opportunity to witness a special event this Friday in Malaga.

On November 28th the some 3.7 million Christmas lights will be switched on in the city, which is the most festive lights ever witnessed in Malaga, according to Typically Spanish.

The festive lights will use new LED technology in order to reduce energy consumption and the spectacular display will be illuminated for 40 nights.
