Brits 'happy' with airports
The majority of Brits taking flights to Spain and other destinations are happy with their airport experiences, it has been revealed.

According to a survey commissioned by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), 80 per cent of passengers who travelled through Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester airports during August and September of last year said they would recommend the airport to a friend.

Of those polled, just six per cent said they would be reluctant to make a recommendation.

It was also revealed that 50 per cent of passengers had to wait less than five minutes to check their luggage in.

Located around 75 kilometres south of Alicante, Murcia is home to more than 200 beaches and, according to budget airline bmibaby, it is one of the "hidden gems" of Spain and has something for everyone.

"From foodies to family and from students to sun lovers", Murcia is the perfect destination for a break this summer.

"With its cosmopolitan culture and laid back atmosphere, visitors will fall in love with Murcia," the airline claimed.

Travel industry will 'remain resilient'
The travel industry will remain resilient, despite the credit crunch, it has been claimed.

Steve Barnes, corporate marketing manager at the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), suggested that people will continue to take holidays to Spain and other destinations.

"We don't believe that they are going to drastically change, because people have it in their psyche that they want to take holidays," he commented.

With the collapse of some airlines, it also means that there is less capacity on the market and Mr Barnes indicated that many companies are still doing well.

Alicante is 'ideal' for sunseekers
Alicante has been described as the ideal destination for those hoping to soak up some sunshine this summer.

Budget airline bmibaby has named the popular Spanish resort as one of its top picks for 2009, suggesting that it is the perfect place for Brits keen to escape the dreary weather back home.

"For those wishing to raise temperatures and bask in the heat, Alicante is the perfect summer destination," the airline said.

Temperatures in Alicante regularly reach the thirties during June, July and August, with sunshine almost guaranteed.

Malaga is 'top summer destination'
Millions of Brits are planning to take holidays in Spain this summer, it has been revealed.

Figures released this week by budget airline bmibaby show that Malaga is the airline's top destination for 2009, followed by Palma and Portugal.

The airline said there have been a "huge" number of people searching for flights online, suggesting that despite the economic downturn, Brits are still eager to jet abroad this summer.

Crawford Rix, bmibaby's managing director, commented: "In order to meet demand from consumers to Mediterranean destinations we have recently increased capacity by an extra 30 flights a week to and from our most popular sunshine routes so that everyone can get to these red hot destinations this summer.

'Controversial' exhibition on display in Spain
Those taking holidays in Spain this month will have the opportunity to see one of the world's most controversial exhibitions.

The Body Worlds exhibition, created by anatomist Gunther von Hagens, has gone on show in Sevilla.

According to Euro Weekly news, the "stunning and impressive" exhibition features 200 bodies, which have been treated through a process known as plastination.

"His process replaces the body's fluids with plastics, resulting in a body that looks like a model despite being real," the news provider said.

EHICs 'useful but not enough'
European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) may be useful but they cannot compare with a proper travel insurance policy, it has been claimed.

Rachel Croft, head of Post Office travel insurance, said that EHICs should be used in addition to comprehensive cover.

For those taking holidays in Spain, EHICs will cover basic medical assistance. However, they do not provide protection for cancellations, delays and lost luggage.

Save money on holiday in Spain
The pound may have lost strength against the euro over the last year but holidaymakers can still save money, it has been claimed.

Writing in the Telegraph, Emma Wall said there are plenty of ways in which travellers can make their hard-earned money go further this year.

Those taking holidays to Spain and other destinations should ensure they use a card which doesn't charge for overseas transactions, such as the Classic MasterCard from the Post Office.

Brits can also save money by planning ahead and buying their currency at the right time.

Brits like to 'holiday with mums'
Over half of Brits like to holiday with their mums, a new survey has revealed.

In a recent poll carried out by Holiday Extras, 54 per cent of people said that their mothers are their ideal travel companions.

However, 19 per cent admitted that they would only holiday with their parents out of a sense of duty.

Commenting on the findings, Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras, said: "Mums deserve a treat on Mother's Day so it's great to hear that so many people would gladly take theirs on holiday.
