Spain 'still offers great value'
Spain still represents fantastic value for money, it has been claimed.

The pound may have taken a hammering against the euro but, according to Ignacio Vasallo, director of the Spanish Tourist Office, there are still some excellent deals to be had.

He told the Travel Trade Gazette that there is a holiday to suit everyone in Spain.

"Spanish Costas cater for all tourists because we have such an extensive range of hotels, resorts and developments: from package breaks and good value holidays, to the luxury, five-star and individual boutique properties," he commented.

Soak up some culture in Spain
As well as soaking up some sunshine, those taking holidays in Spain will also find plenty of culture to soak up.

Speaking recently to the Travel Trade Gazette, Ignacio Vasallo, director of the Spanish Tourist Office, said that although many people are planning to holiday in the UK this year, they should remember how much there is to be gained from a trip overseas.

"Taking your children to a different country, and showing them a new culture, people, food, way of life and environment, is a fantastic opportunity for them and an unforgettable experience," he commented.

In addition, he pointed out that holidays in the UK do not guarantee sunshine and could end up being a washout.

Overseas weddings offer 'great value'
Getting married overseas is an excellent option for couples during the credit crunch, it has been suggested.

Speaking recently, Nick Gropper, managing director at Weddings and Honeymoons Abroad, said that getting married overseas in a destination such as Spain can be a much cheaper alternative to tying the knot in the UK.

"Getting married in the UK costs round about £20,000 whereas when you get married abroad, the average cost is about £4,000 so couples can still get married during a time when there is not much money floating around," he commented.

According to research published recently by Mintel, 16 per cent of Brits now get married abroad, with numbers increasing by 43 per cent since 2003.

Travellers advised to 'avoid airport exchange desks'
People looking to save money on their holidays in Spain should avoid buying currency at the airport, it has been claimed.

According to foreign exchange specialist FairFX, those ordering money online could save nine per cent, compared to travellers changing their money at Heathrow Airport.

It was revealed last week that foreign exchange desks at Heathrow were selling one pound sterling for less than one euro, following the base rate cut and introduction of quantitative easing.

Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFX, said that holidaymakers will get more bang for their buck by avoiding airports.

Guests will find dozens of tails to explore, with many well-marked paths offering unrivalled views of the surrounding area.

The resort is also situated close to La Fuente Hill, which can be accessed by walking through the village of Los Belones.

Learn about Spanish history
Brits taking holidays in Spain later this month will have the chance to learn a little about the country's rich history.

Taking place from March 18th to March 22nd, the annual Moors and Christians Festival is one of Alicante's most popular events and features street carnivals, battle re-enactments and religious events.

According to events site Whats on When, the festival is celebrated all throughout the Alicante area, with each village celebrating in their own way.

One of the highlights of the festival is when the Moors and Christians parade through the streets dressed in historic costumes.

Brits 'should haggle'
One expert has suggested that haggling may be the key to securing a better holiday deal this year.

Mark Bower, lifestyle sales director at Lastminute.com, said there are plenty of ways in which Brits can get a good value holiday.

For those who cannot avoid peak times and must travel during the school holidays, Mr Bower recommends haggling with travel agents and car hire companies.

'Anyone' can save money on holiday in Spain
With a little knowhow and determination, anyone can save money on their next holiday in Spain.

That is the opinion of Stuart Bensusan, insurance director at Holiday Extras, who said there are dozens of ways that Brits can cut costs.

"Simple things such as changing the day you fly, or booking directly with hotels and airlines rather than going through a travel agent, could result in significant savings," he commented.

Dealing with hotels and car hire companies directly can help travellers save money, as well as signing up to email alerts and newsletters.

Filming of Benidorm gets underway
Filming of hit ITV show Benidorm has recommenced in the Spanish resort.

Those taking holidays in Spain over the coming months may have the opportunity to spot stars including Johnny Vegas and Siobhan Finneran as they enjoy fun and frolics at the fictional Solana resort.

According to Typically Spanish, filming of series three began at the end of February and is expected to last until May 30th.

"Eight hour long programmes are being prepared, doubling the previous duration," the news provider said.

Get close to nature on holiday in Spain
It was reported earlier this week that a baby pygmy hippopotamus has gone on show at Fuengirola Zoo and those taking holidays in Spain will certainly find no shortage of animal attractions.

One of the most popular places to visit in the Costa Blanca is Mundomar in Benidorm, where holidaymakers can enjoy entertaining dolphin, parrot and sea lion shows.

Other animals at the park include flamingos, turtles and a large colony of penguins.

Ideal for a family day out, Mundomar is also home to a large children's playground, which features a large climbing wall, swings, bridges, slides and play nets.
