An increasing number of Britons are enjoying holidays in Spain and other popular destinations, it has been suggested.
Ian Bradley, a spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), said travellers are starting to feel more confident now that the global economic downturn is beginning to ease a little.
"The UK could suffer in 2010 as travellers who tried the staycation last year are keen to head overseas this year and the currency situation becomes more favourable for foreign travel," he commented.
Mr Bradley noted that eurozone destinations such as Spain are more appealing this year than in 2009 due to the more attractive exchange rate between sterling and the euro.
