Escape the snow at La Manga Club
With the snow continuing to fall heavily across the UK, a holiday in Spain could be just the ticket for those looking to escape the chilly weather at home.

While building snowmen may be fun, a holiday in the sun at one of Europe's top resorts is equally entertaining – and warmer.

Moreover, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, it could be the ideal time to whisk your loved one off to Spain.

A number of airlines operate flights to the nearby airports of Murcia and Alicante, and with transfer times of under an hour, a trip to La Manga is a viable option even for a weekend break.

Holidaymakers 'look for value'
British travellers are looking for a good deal on their holidays to Spain and other destinations this year.

Research carried out by Trivago shows that 35 per cent of people plan to shop around for deals and plan ahead this year.

However, of those surveyed, 27 per cent said they intend to spend the same amount as last year and just two per cent said they plan to travel less than in 2008.

Elsewhere in Europe the view is much the same, with 42 per cent of Italians looking to bag a bargain this year, compared to 14 per cent of Spaniards.

Kids want 'action-packed' holidays
Spending time outside is the top priority for British children when abroad, a new survey has revealed.

In contrast to mum and dad who like to relax and enjoy fine food, research by Eurocamp has revealed that children's priorities include playing outside and finding a good swimming pool.

Of the children surveyed, 31 per cent said a good beach was a must, as well as "lots to do and see".

Commenting on the findings, Eurocamp spokesman Chris Hilton said: "It seems that today's so-called cotton-wool kids look to their holiday to give them the independence and adventure they crave at home – where they are increasingly deprived of the freedom to play outside.

Holidaymakers urged 'not to cut back on insurance'
The economic downturn may have holidaymakers looking for ways to save money, but cutting back on travel insurance should not be one of them.

Speaking last week, Andy Taylor, director of Go Travel Insurance, said that those taking holidays in Spain and other destinations could face huge bills if they travel without insurance.

The cost of treating a broken leg in Europe can be as much as £4,000 and that is without repatriation costs.

"Unfortunately bad things can easily happen on this type of holiday so you should ensure you have insurance for all the activities you might enjoy on holiday," he explained.
