Celebrate Easter in Alicante
Budget airline bmibaby has singled out Alicante as one of the best places to spend Easter this year.

With cheap flights to Spain from airports including Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff, it may be one of the best-value and most accessible places to spend the holidays.

"Visit Alicante during April to experience the Moors and Christians Festival, a magical mix of street carnival, religion and history," the airline said.

The festival is held annually and features everything from battle re-enactments to musical entertainment.

Axing check-in desks will 'reduce fares'
Ryanair's plans to cut airport check-in desks will reduce airfares for passengers, it has been claimed.

James Fremantle, a spokesman for the Air Transport Users Council, said that as long as passengers can check-in easily online, Ryanair's proposals should be a success.

"As long as it works OK and people are not left behind by the desks being shut and you can check your bags in and everything, then it is a good thing for consumers," he added.

Ryanair, which offers flights to Spain and other destinations, said earlier this week that it will axe all of its check-in desks over the next 12 months and replace them with a baggage drop zone.

Driving in Spain
For those taking a holiday in Spain this year, hiring a car is arguably the best way to get around. Not only does a hire car offer you flexibility and the freedom to discover the country in your own time, but it is also an economical option.

Families in particular will find that the cost of airport transfers, taxis and public transport quickly adds up.

Hiring a car in Murcia is very straightforward, with holidaymakers able to book via La Manga Club's website or arrange car hire at Murcia or Alicante Airport.

Water sports at La Manga Club
Basking in sunshine for over 300 days a year and located beside Spain's famous Mar Menor, La Manga Club is the perfect destination for those looking to try their hand at some water-based activities this year.

Covering more than 170-square-kilometres, the Mar Menor is Europe's largest saltwater lagoon and is often referred to as the Little Sea. The waters of the Mar Menor are around six degrees C warmer than the surrounding sea water and it is no more than seven metres deep.

The area around La Manga Club is dotted with dozens of picturesque beaches and coves, making it ideal for activities such as sailing.

According to Spain's official tourism site, the festival features, parades, exhibitions and entertainment, with locals taking to the streets with giant hand-crafted figures and other works of art.

"During this time, the streets are filled with fun, imagination and spectacle in an impressive exhibition of art and colour which will leave you speechless," the organisation said.

Tourist chiefs plan to 'attract more Brits'
Tourist chiefs in the Costa Blanca are hoping to attract more British visitors to the region this summer, it has been revealed.

According to Typically Spanish, authorities are investing two million euros in a new campaign to promote the area's attractions.

"It's part of a total spend of some 4 million euros to promote the Costa Blanca this year, promised by the director general of Turespana, Antoni Bernabe," the news provider said.

The campaign is due to start in the near future and Brits can expect to see images of the Costa Blanca's sun-soaked beaches popping up in cinemas and magazines across the UK.

Holidays in Spain are still popular, says easyJet
British travellers still enjoy taking holidays in Spain, it has been claimed.

Despite the recession, budget airline easyJet says there is still a great deal of demand for flights to popular, sunny destinations such as Murcia.
