Spanish holidays hold "traditional appeal" for Brits
Spanish holidays show no signs of losing popularity among loyal British travellers, after a property site listed it as the number one country for investment in holiday homes.

According to a study by HolidayLettings.co.uk, Spain is continuing to attract tourists who wish to buy their own plot of Spain which they can then keep revisiting.

Sartorial Spain pioneers fashion project
Barcelona and Madrid are known for their elegant fashionistas and as such it comes as no great shock that Spain's fashion designers are pioneering a new project to make clothes fit for "real women".

The Associated Press reports that the project is part of Spain's efforts to dispel the perception that "thin equals beautiful".

The project has seen 10,000 volunteers undergo laser beam "zapping" in order to measure their actual size - meaning that soon style-conscious women enjoying luxury holidays in Spain will have even better shopping trips to look forward to.

Spain's health ministry commented: "The study promotes the image of healthy beauty, adapting catwalk and storefront models to the dimensions of the real population.

Families opt for city breaks
Britons enjoying family holidays in Spain may be choosing to visit cities such as Barcelona and Madrid in order to experience a cultural break, it has been suggested.

According to Kirker Holidays, the trend for "sugar-coated" holidays to theme parks is diminishing, with parents instead opting to take their offspring on more educational and mixed holidays.

Spokesperson Ted Wake commented that there has been a "significant" increase in the number of families opting for such cultural holidays.

"Why not do something that is a bit more intellectually stimulating, that will appeal to children and adults just as strongly as a fairground experience?" Mr Wake asked.

Gandia Fallas in March
This March in Gandia south of Valencia, those on Spanish holidays are set to celebrate in style for the fiesta of Las Fallas.

What's On When reports that the four-day festival takes place in March in celebration of patron saint, San Jose.

The event's website reports that over 4,000 participants are set to take part in the event which will see 20 paper mache heads, or Fallas, of celebrities and politicians promenaded through the streets.

Those on Spanish holidays will then be able to watch the ceremonial burning of the effigies in a bonfire on the last evening of the fiesta.

Brits could see bargain flights to Spain
British holidaymakers would do well to be on the look out for bargain flights to Alicante and other destinations in the coming weeks, it has been suggested.

According to the Air Transport Users Council, vigilant Brits may be able to bag "real bargains" as the budget flight market becomes fairly saturated.

The comment comes after Ryanair this week released a profit warning for next year, due to weakening consumer demand, rising oil prices and higher airport charges.

James Fremantle, industry affairs manager with the council commented: "In a strange way - based on recent history - at the moment it might be a good time for consumers, as Ryanair's response to problems in the industry is to slash fares.

Brits opt for "complete lifestyle change" in Spain
British expatriates who move to Spain in their retirement take the flights to Spain for a "complete lifestyle change", it has been claimed.

The comment from a NatWest spokesperson comes after Spain was listed in a top quality of life study by the company on account of its weather and other services.

Dave Isley, Head of NatWest International Personal Banking, added that while many Britons travel overseas on account of the bad British weather, a significant proportion relocate in the hope of experiencing a better lifestyle.

Brits take flights to Alicante from Doncaster
An increasing number of British holidaymakers took flights to Alicante from a regional UK airport in January 2008, it has been reported.

According to Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport, passenger numbers rose by more than five per cent in the first month of 2008 compared to the figures for the corresponding period in 2007.

And the number one destination for travellers using the Doncaster airport was Spain with the majority of passengers taking flights to Alicante for Spanish holidays.

"We're happy to report the growth in passenger throughput year on year, which demonstrates the continued impact Robin Hood Airport has on the region," commented Peel Airport's Group airport director, Hugh Lang.
