Golf ace relishes a holiday
If you are heading on holiday to Spain next year, do not be surprised to see one of golf's rising stars when you get there.

Ewan Porter, the 26-year-old from Sydney, has admitted that he cannot wait to take a break from the pressure of professional sport.

However, while golf holidays to La Manga Club could be the perfect option for the Australian, it is unlikely that holidaymakers will see him on the fairways of the resort's three world class courses.

"I don't know where I'll go but I'm looking forward to putting the clubs in the garage, locking them up and throwing away the key for a month," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

EHICs 'not enough' for holidays in Spain
British holidaymakers have been advised that European Health Insurance cards (EHICs) are not an adequate replacement for travel insurance.

The cards, which are available for free, only entitle the holder to a limited amount of emergency health care within the EU and should not be used as a substitute for travel insurance, according to one travel expert.

Writing in the Times, Richard Green warned that EHICs do not provide cover for repatriation to the UK, lost or stolen property and private medical bills.

"The EHIC is for ad-hoc medical needs during your trip, and isn't valid if you go abroad specifically to receive medical health care.

More beach parking in Alicante
Officials in Alicante have announced plans to construct four new car parks in the area.

The new car parks will be introduced as part of the PGOU Urban Plan for Alicante and will no doubt be welcomed by guests hiring a car at La Manga.

Two of the car parks will be located underground, at the Avenida Costa Blanca and in El Postiguet, with the others to be situated in Cabo de Huertas and Serra Grossa, Typically Spanish reports.

Authorities are also planning to create a new boulevard to the south of the city, along with a new seafront link between Playa San Juan to San Gabriel.

Downturn 'has little impact' on holiday plans
The majority of Britons say the economic downturn has had little impact on their forthcoming holiday plans.

In a recent Adfero street poll carried out in Leeds, 80 per cent of people said they did not plan to alter their travel arrangements as a result of the credit crunch.

Figures indicate that despite the doom and gloom, Britons are as keen as ever to enjoy their hard-earned holidays to Spain and other destinations.

A similar poll carried out by ebookers earlier this year found that the majority of Brits view holidays as an absolute necessity.

Holidaymakers taking flights to Spain may be interested to learn that budget airline Ryanair has been ranked ahead of British Airways and BMI in terms of punctuality and the ability to look after luggage.

Figures from the Association of European Airlines (AEA) found that 88 per cent of Ryanair flights arrive on time, compared to 77 per cent of BMI flights and 73 per cent of British Airways.
