Third of holidaymakers 'do not use sunscreen'

A third of people taking holidays to Spain and elsewhere to not protect their skin with sunscreen, it has been revealed.

According to research by sun care company Green People, 60 per cent of people between the ages of 16 and 24 expect to be burnt when they are abroad.

Charlotte Vohtz, a spokesperson for the organisation, said it is vital that people put their health first when jetting abroad.

"It is really important that you apply a generous amount of sunscreen (30ml to cover your body / one shot glass) every two hours you are in the sun," she explained.

Families 'want to spend more time together'

Brits are keen to spend more quality time with their loved ones, according to new research.

A survey carried out by Merlin Entertainment revealed that 85 per cent of people would like to do more with their family and friends.

Of those polled, 47 per cent said the best thing about taking a group trip or holiday is having the chance to be with their loved ones.

Commenting on the findings, psychologist Carey Cooper said: "In difficult economic times, it is great to see that the family still plays an important role in meeting people's social needs and that people want to spend more time with their family members.

Currency sales 'on the rise'

Foreign currency sales have increased over the last year, suggesting that people are feeling more confident about taking holidays to Spain and other popular destinations.

According to the American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services Currency Index, sales rose by six per cent during the first quarter of 2010, compared to the same period in 2009.

Terry Perrin, director of trading and business development at American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services, said sales of the euro are increasing steadily.

Favourites of 2009 are likely to continue their popular streak into the summer of 2010.
