Under-16s are 'well travelled'

Today's under-16s travel abroad twice as much as their parents did, a new study has revealed.

Research undertaken by found that the average 16-year-old has travelled abroad more than 14 times, compared to their parents who had visited just seven foreign destinations by the same age.

Results show that 98 per cent of under-16s have travelled within Europe, 34 per cent have been to North America and 13 per cent have taken a long-haul trip to Australia.

Spain to promote 'sustainable tourism'

Tourism authorities in Spain are looking at ways to sustain the country's many tourist attractions and beaches so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

According to eTurboNews, a number of policies will be introduced aimed at preserving Spain's natural attractions and creating more conservation zones – making holidays in Spain even more enjoyable.

"Even before sustainability became a buzz word in environmental and conservation circles, tourism officials were taking an inventory of Spain's tourism infrastructure and carefully making plans for future development," Spain's ministry of tourism said.

The ministry said it will spend over two billion euros annually on introducing these new measures.

Medieval market comes to Altea

Britons enjoying holidays in Spain this month might be surprised when they arrive in the city of Altea to find that is has been transformed into a medieval market.

The fair will be taking place until February 9th and is the city's way of paying homage to its patron saint, reports the Benidorm Spotlight.

It is called Fiestas del Santisimo Cristo de la Salud de Altea le Vella and visitors to the area can expect to see most of its balconies draped in banners as part of the festivities.

Spanish coastline to be 'upgraded'

Officials in Spain are planning to upgrade the stretch of coastline between Torremolinos and Marbella, in a bid to attract more holidaymakers.

Andalucia's Ministry for Tourism and the Western Costa del Sol's Association of Municipalities are planning to invest more than 5.6 million euros to revamp 12 beaches in the area, Euro Weekly reports.

Some of the beaches that will benefit from the investment include Los Alamos and La Carihuela in Torremolinos and Santa Ana in Benalmadena.

England's female footballers emerge from La Manga camp

The England Women's football squad will be jetting off for further training soon, having spent time at a camp in La Manga Club this month.

Manager Hope Powell has selected 26 players for another get-together in Cyprus between February 3rd and 13th.

The squad were based at La Manga Club from January 12th to 17th for a few sessions in the Costa Calida sunshine.

January is proving to be a busy month for the camp, which has also welcomed the squads of FC Basel and PSV Eindhoven since the start of the new year.

A golf holiday in La Manga Club it may not have been, but for 19-year-old Florentyna Parker, her trip to the famous courses will be even more memorable.

The Germany-based golfer recently made the cut at the La Manga Qualifying School, which means she will be taking part in the European tour.

Music fans taking holidays in Spain may have the opportunity to see rock legend Bruce Springsteen perform later this year.

The American singer, whose back catalogue contains hits such as Born in the USA and Born to Run, is reportedly in talks to play a gig in Benidorm this summer.

According to Typically Spanish, officials at Benidorm Town Hall have earmarked July 31st as a possible performance date.

Details have yet to be confirmed; however, it is thought that the singer will play a number of Spanish concerts as part of the promotional tour for his new album Working on a Dream.
