House tips given to those planning Spanish holidays 18th June 2008
Britons planning on enjoying relaxing Spanish holidays in La Manga and elsewhere have been offered tips on how to secure their home before catching a flight to Alicante.

According to confused.com, there are several ways in which to be safety conscious when it comes to securing your home, and in doing so ensuring they can enjoy peace of mind as they relax on the beach on holiday.

Tips include keeping neighbours and family updated on your holiday dates so they can keep an eye out as well as leaving spare keys with them directly rather than leaving them under a plant pot.

Cleaner flights to Spain 'in the offing' 18th June 2008
Flights to Spain could become increasingly cleaner, following news from easyJet that it has, in conjunction with CFM, reached a milestone in its efforts to become one of the most environmentally-efficient airlines in the world.

According to the budget airline, its new engines will reduce mono-nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by a quarter.

It also claims that this will in turn bring "considerable progress" to work on reducing CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

"This airline's Green CFM56 represents the best of available and mature technologies for the environment and will enable easyJet to meet future international emissions regulations with significant margins," Eric Bachelet, president of CFM commented.

New flights to Spain announced 18th June 2008
A series of new flights to Spain, including flights to Alicante and flights to Murcia have been announced by a budget airline.

Ryanair has revealed that it is to launch nine new routes including flights to Fuerteventura, Palma and Malaga from October 2008 from Birmingham Airport.

Peter Vella, Birmingham Airport's business development director recently announced that he was "delighted" to become Ryanair's twenty-fifth base and to welcome the additional nine routes.

"There's a double celebration at Birmingham International Airport this week.

Sporty Brits 'should check cover' ahead of Spanish holidays 17th June 2008
Sports lovers planning on taking action packed holidays to Spain this summer should ensure they check the small print of their insurance policies before travelling, according to new advice.

According to esure, a quarter of holidaymakers intend to engage in more active pursuits than sunbathing on the beach this summer, however ten per cent of Brits mistakenly believe themselves to be covered for adventurous activities by their travel insurance policies as standard.

Research by the company revealed that of the 88 per cent of British holidaymakers that have taken part in adventurous holiday activities, more than 2.8 million have suffered an injury while doing so.

Road safety abroad campaign launched 17th June 2008
Britons considering making use of car hire services while on holiday in La Manga Club are the targets of a new road safety campaign launched by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

According to the FCO, tourists are three times more likely to be involved in road accidents than locals and the government department's Steer Clear of Trouble on Foreign Roads' campaign is designed to benefit Brits renting hire cars and driving abroad.

Research shows that almost one third of Britons have driven on the wrong side of the road while on holiday while more than one in ten have driven in the wrong direction on a roundabout.

"I would urge those planning to drive abroad this summer to prepare carefully before leaving the UK.

Sitcom 'boosts Spanish holidays' 17th June 2008
Following the completion of series two of ITV1 comedy series Benidorm, it has been reported that there has been a boost in bookings of Spanish holidays.

According to Travelbite, bookings for holidays to Spain have soared since the airing of the series which focuses on a set of stereotypical Brits abroad on the Costa del Sol, LateRooms reports.

It is claimed that bookings to Benidorm have almost doubled since the first series of the programme, starring funnyman Johnny Vegas.

""Jonny Vegas and the cast of Benidorm have clearly been a huge driver this year," commented company spokesperson Kathy Gwinnett.

Sixties festival to be held on Spanish holiday island 17th June 2008
A backward-looking festival will be held this summer on the Spanish holiday island of Majorca.

The Deya Heydays festival, Oona Napier and Jackie Waldren, will seek to remember the golden age of the village when it was immersed in art, poetry, writing and music, the Majorca Daily Bulletin reports.

Between the 1960s and 1980s Deya was a haven for struggling artists, musicians, writers and poets, including the likes of Robert Graves and the organisers are looking to make sure the memory of this era and its influence on Majorca is celebrated.

"We have collated some old posters advertising Deya, postcards and other items like old Vespas.

English football team to train at La Manga Club 17th June 2008
UK football team Gillingham will be taking flights to Spain for pre-season training this summer, it has been reported.

According to Kent Online, the League Two football club will be honing their skills with a week of training at La Manga Club from July 8th 2008.

However, squad members have been assured by manager Mark Stimson that the trip does not amount to a Spanish holiday.

"It's going to involve some serious training and in three or four days we'll be looking to get in 12 sessions, training three times a day," Stimson commented.

New transport link between Alicante and Benidorm 16th June 2008
Britons taking flights to Alicante for Spanish holidays will now find themselves enjoying better transport links.

The local Ferrocarrils Generalitat Valencia - FGV - train service between Benidorm and Alicante has been opened.

The line L9 service offers a half hourly train instead of the previous hourly service on odder.

"The tram gives much more flexibility and frequency to the travelling public.

Brits 'cling on to Spanish holidays' 16th June 2008
Consumers in Britain are looking unlikely to relinquish their plans for summer holidays in Spain, according to a new report.

TravelMole claims that despite concerns over the impending fuel crisis which ahs seen petrol prices rocket, 61 per cent of British workers intend to take the same amount of holiday entitlement as they took last year.

Meanwhile a quarter of Britons are looking to enjoy even more time off this summer than in summer 2007, the TripAdvisor study highlighted.

"A summer holiday is a must-have for the British public.
