Tennis champ offers summer holiday tips

A former tennis champion has offered her insights into the burgeoning credit crisis and the impact it will have on summer holidays abroad.

According to Annabel Croft, winner of the Wimbledon and Australian Open girls' tournaments in 1984 and former presenter of BBC show Treasure Hunt, 75 per cent of families are concerned about the cost of holiday entertainment due to the credit crunch.

She added that this summer, parents should try to get their children motivated and to introduce them to tennis and other sports and activities.

"Not everybody in my family likes the same sport but it's a chance to get everyone involved in different sports and particularly if the weather is going to be so awful," she commented.

Spanish holidays still top on "sheer numbers"

While recent research from Co-op suggested that Turkey had pipped Spain to the post this year in the holidaying stakes, this may not be the case, it has been claimed.

Trevor Davis, head of retail distribution at Co-op, noted that while Turkey has benefited from a growth in bookings as holidaymakers look outside of the eurozone, Spanish holidays are a traditional favourite among Brits.

However, according to the Scotsman, spokesman for the Association of British Travel Agents, Spanish holidays are still the most popular.

A new study has revealed what the "essential ingredients" are for the perfect holiday.

The research from a nationwide study, commissioned by isango! Notes seven ways in which travellers are "more likely" to have a "perfect holiday".

A total of seven factors - including when, where, how long for, who with and what activities to do - all make up the criteria for an ideal getaway.

Holidaymakers are advised that the weekend of July 11th-13th is the best time take a break and that two weeks is the ideal length

A Western European location, for example a holiday in Spain, would be the perfect holiday location.

Spanish holidaymakers 'given top tips'

Britons travelling on flights to Spain and holidays elsewhere in Europe have been issued with a series of travel tips by one commentator.

According to Kirstie Bayley, vice-president of American Express Travellers Cheques, travellers cheques are one way of protecting your finances on holidays in Spain as they are "completely replaceable if lost or stolen".

Other advice includes making photocopies of important documentation such as passports and insurance information and leaving a hard copy at home while retaining another to take with you on holiday. Keeping an e-version of such information is also advised as it is accessible from anywhere.

Spanish holidays 'number one for horse riding'

Spain has been listed as one of the top ten destinations for a pony trekking holiday, according to one publication.

The Guardian placed the Andalucian coastline of Spain in the top spot for horse riding holidays.

According to the publication, travellers on Spanish holidays to Andalucia will have views of North Africa and enjoy hacks through the pine covered countryside.

On a riding holiday in Spain, horse-lovers can also "gallop through the waves towards the sand dunes at the windsurfer's paradise of Tarifa".

Spanish holiday for England footballer

England footballer Peter Crouch has been spotted enjoying a Spanish holiday in Ibiza with his girlfriend.

The 6ft 7 inch striker was photographed in the Daily Mail relaxing aboard a sail boat with WAG Abbey Clancy on his second holiday of the summer.

Being careful to apply suncream to each other, the pair looked bronzed and relaxed as the boat drifted in the waters off the Spanish holiday island this week.

Clancy wore a patterned triangle bikini while Crouch covered his long limbs with a pair of white shorts.

Wimbledon tennis champ takes Spanish holiday

Following his gruelling victory over Roger Federer at the Wimbledon championships last weekend where he clinched the title of Men's Single's champion, tennis hero Rafael Nadal has been relaxing on a Spanish holiday on his home island of Majorca.

The 22-year -old Spaniard beat the Swiss world number one tennis player in an epic five-set match which saw Nadal take his first Wimbledon title with three sets to two.

Nadal was enjoying his Spanish holiday with girlfriend Maria Francisca Perello, known as Xisca.

Reportedly, Nadal prefers his girlfriend not to attend his tennis matches in order that he does not get distracted.

Cost of holidays 'creeps up' for families

Parents wishing to take their children away on holiday this summer could be facing rising premium charges, it has been reported.

According to Abbey, during the first fortnight of August, holidays abroad will cost UK parents the most money.

Research by the company revealed that rates are higher between mid-July and the first few weeks in August during school holidays.

"The costs of summer holidays increase drastically when the schools break up - and this year, with so many living costs going up, this could prove difficult for parents," commented Callum Gibson, head of Abbey Credit Cards.

The Association of British Travel Agents recently reported that despite growing concerns about the state of the UK economy, few Britons will be giving up their summer holidays in Spain this year.

However, for those who want to travel with a clear conscience when it comes to finance, a pre-paid card could be one way to help stay on track financially.

According to Virgin Money, pre-paid cards can help Brits stay on budget by removing the temptation to run up a debt as only the amount loaded on the card can be spent.

"They're a good discipline to get into to avoid the risk of the sun going to your head and burning up your bank balance on holiday," Virgin Money spokesman Grant Bather said.

The Spanish holiday island of Lanzarote is home to one of the world's "sexiest beaches", it has been claimed.

According to Concierge.com, the black sand beach of El Golfo is frequented by "surfer types" and is popular with Spanish holidaymakers.

Meanwhile, Spain's Costa Blanca was voted as one of the top ten holiday destinations for 2008 for British foreign holidays.
