Travelex: More holiday money bought online |

 Visitors setting off on their Spanish holidays are more likely to buy their holiday spending money online than queue for it at a bureau de change, suggests worldwide money business Travelex.
Figures from Travelex show that more holidaymakers are buying their money online than ever before, with online transactions going through the roof, rising by over 1000 per cent since 2004.
Better rates of exchange and a general trend towards on-line shopping have prompted the large increase in the number of internet transactions taking place, a spokesperson for the company explained.
"Most people are buying their currency online now," a Travelex spokesperson commented.

Halifax: Travel insurance has "moved on" |

 Holidaymakers heading out on flights to Spain will always need travel insurance, but things have "moved on" since the E111, according to high street bank Halifax.
A spokesperson for the bank said that annual policies were becoming increasingly popular, since they only needed to be taken out once to provide cover for any number of holidays throughout the year.
The traditional E111 form, familiar to holidaymakers travelling to EU destinations such as Spain and the NHS card that replaced it in 2005 are no longer the most common forms of travel insurance, said David Bruce, spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance.
"I think things have moved on since then," Mr Bruce explained.

Davenport wins three months after giving birth |

 Lindsay Davenport won the Bali Open at the weekend, after a one-year break from tennis and just three months after giving birth to her first child.
Davenport, the 2005 champion, beat second seed Daniela Hantuchova in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Over the course of her year's maternity leave and the birth of her son on June 10th, Davenport's world ranking had slipped to 234th. But this looks set to change, as the former world number one, who the US Open in 1998, Wimbledon in 1999 and the Australian Open in 2000 has shown that being a mother is no barrier to tennis success.

The Times names La Manga among "autumn's best active holidays" |

 An article featured in Saturday's issue of the Times has praised La Manga as one of the "top autumn adventures" available to holidaymakers seeking an active break this autumn.
The UK national newspaper singled out La Manga's "world-class tennis academy" and its fantastic micro-climate as unique attractions, making the Spanish resort an ideal get-away from the grey skies of autumn.
Among the many plaudits given to La Manga, the Times identified the dry and sunny micro-climate around the Mar Menor lagoon as the perfect location for a game of tennis this autumn. The group tennis clinics provided by the five-star resort were said to be the perfect way for holidaymakers to improve their game before heading out on to the clubs 28 clay, grass and hard tennis courts.

Which?: Compensation for airline delays is limited |

 Many holidaymakers often over-estimate the amount of compensation they are actually entitled to when flights are delayed, according to consumer watchdog Which?
Where flights are delayed and passengers miss connections, most airlines are not obliged to provide the holidaymaker financial compensation, said Suzy Valentine, a lawyer for Which? legal service.
However, when flights of less than 1,500 kilometres are delayed by more than two hours, airlines are obliged to provide what Ms Valentine described as "minimal assistance".

Woods wins again to take first FedEx Cup |

 Tiger Woods, the most successful golfer of his generation, won again over the weekend, lifting both the Tour Championship and the US PGA Tour's first FedEx Cup.
Woods won on Sunday by eight strokes, finishing ahead of Mark Calcavecchia and Zach Johnson with a career best of 257 strokes at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Four rounds completed in 64-63-64-66 allowed Woods to finish at 23-under-par, way ahead of his rivals.
The victory in the Tour Championship, Woods' seventh out of the 16 PGA Tour events he competed in this year, netted the golfer a cool $11 million in prize money - $1.

Travelex: More holiday money spent on pre-pay cards |

 Tourists heading off on Spanish holidays are now more likely than ever to take their holiday cash in the form of a pre-pay card, according to worldwide money business Travelex.
More people now use pre-pay card on holiday than are use traditional travellers' cheques, a spokesperson for the company said.
Better security, ease of use and familiarity all help to make the plastic cards a popular way to carry holiday money abroad, he added.
"Travellers' cheques are still in use but people are favouring pre-paid travel cards now.

Stansted airport expects 10m increase in passengers |

 London Stansted, the third largest airport in the UK, which currently sees 23.7 million tourists jet off on holiday each year, has said that it plans to serve an extra ten million passengers each year.
Many holidaymakers begin their journey to La Manga from Stansted airport, from where passengers can embark on flights to Alicante with major airlines easyJet and Ryanair.
The airport, which serves passengers from all over the UK, says that it expects to grow significantly over the course of the next 12 months.

British golfers get ready for Gold at La Manga |

 The third round of the Golden Golf Celebrity/Amateur Tour is set to hit the Devon at the end of September in what will be the West Country's first live televised celebrity golf tournament.
Sky Sports will broadcast the event, which will held High Bullen Hotel Golf and Country Club on September 23rd and at the Royal North Devon course at Westward Ho! on the 24th.
The tour offers amateur golfers the chance to earn a place in a star-studded finale at La Manga Club, where they will play alongside a dazzling array of celebrity golfers drawn from the world of sports and television.
Amateurs competing in Devon will be paired with celebrities including Kriss Akabusi, winner of the 400m gold at the World Championships in 1991, Shane Byrne of the 2005 British and Irish Lions, and Phil de Freitas, the youngest member of the 1986-87 England cricket team that won the Ashes in Australia.
