As you head off home from your stay at Spains premier resort, La Manga Club, if you are flying from Alicante airport remember you can indulge in your favourite sweet treat, churros and chocolate.
The newly expanded Alicante airport now has an excellent duty free area for some last minute retail therapy and plenty of places to eat some good food before you are left with no option but airline food.
You will find a branch of El Cortes Ingles selling some great bags and shoes and some of the high end fashion retailers are also there.
Valor, the chocolatier, is where you can purchase a good breakfast and the delicious Spanish favourite churros and chocolate.
Spring is here at La Manga Club and with it comes all kinds of exciting events going on in preparation for the coming season.
We welcome the return this month of some of the most popular seasonal restaurants at La Manga Club, including La Cala and Sol y Sombra poolside bar and cafe. La Cala being situated down on the private beach cove is a great place to sample locally sourced fish.
We are pleased to announce that there are some outstanding promotions at these restaurants at the moment and for the coming months and many others within the La Manga Club privately owned restaurants, many of whom are launching new menus.
Established in the 1970's the Miramar restaurant in Cabo de Palos is considered one of the best restaurants in the village and as it sits right on the corner of the harbour it is in an enviable position overlooking the water.
Cabo del Palos is a ten minute drive from La Manga Club and has many restaurants offering locally caught fish on the menu. Miramar is a large restaurant with seating both inside and outside on the terrace and is very popular with locals and visitors for Sunday lunch either indoors or al fresco.
The paella is worth the wait while you enjoy some garlic prawns, baby squid or home made soup.
With several new restaurants opening in Los Belones, the village just outside of La Manga Club, do not forget to try the new Japanese sushi restaurant called Enso Sushi. It can be found tucked away from the main road, just off of the main square, opposite the church, so within in a 5 minute drive from La Manga Club
The menu is what you would expect from a Japanese sushi bar and is absolutely delicious. Freshly made and reasonably priced it cannot fail to impress. The Spicy tuna is great and the green tea tiramisu a must try.
La Manga Club properties have always had a good selection of TV channels supplied by the in house Club TV. You would always be able to find a selection of English speaking channels which would include BBC World, BBC Prime and of course some major sports channels.
Since the upgrade to digital TV you will now find every TV channel that you would find at home and therefore any drama or soap you follow you can keep up with whilst enjoying the Spanish sunshine. Just bear in mind the one hour time difference between Spain and the UK.
Los Belones is expanding constantly and it is great to see so many new businesses opening after a difficult few years. Just outside of La Manga Club, Los Belones is a few minutes drive away and makes for a nice change of scene and visit to a local Spanish village.
Another new restaurant has opened in the Pyramid complex in Los Belones and it is great to see a typical Spanish taperia represented there. Open for a drink and tapa or dinner this new restaurant should do well given that its daily menu offers great value at 12 euros per person.
If you visit La Manga Club on a regular basis and need to shop in large quantities then you will have probably visited the large Carrefour supermarket as you enter Cartagena. This has always been a good store but the new one they have opened in Espacio Mediterraneo must be considered a flagship store.
The new commercial centre called Espacio Mediterraneo is located approximately a 20 minute drive from La Manga Club, about half way on the same road that takes you into Cartagena. The centre has a huge range of outlets from DIY to fashion and in the centre is the brand new Carrefour supermarket.
If your favourite is Chinese food then no doubt you would have tried Casa Lee in Los Belones, just outside La Manga Club. It was located on the main road in Los Belones but on the edge of town, well known to the locals and La Manga Club residents and visitors but not in a prime position.
We are pleased to say that they have now moved to a great location within the much newer building that you see as you enter Los Belones from La Manga Club on the right. The Pyramid commercial centre is the attractive unusual style building which also houses a pizza restaurant, The Run and a new Spanish tapas bar and drinks bar.
La Manga Club has a selection of shops on site with several boutiques selling European fashion at reasonable prices, even better recently with the Euro making everything much better value. For a great day out and shopping trip off site, La Manga Club is just a short drive to Cartagena where you can find a branch of the famous El Corte Ingles department shop. You can also enjoy the new port that has been designed at Cartagena which is very attractive and is now proving to be an important stop on the many cruise ships itinerary.
In between La Manga Club and Cartagena you can now also find the huge retail park known as Espacio Mediterraneo which consists of large stores such as Leroy Merlin and Mediamart and within the stylish malls you will find firm favourites such as Primark, Zara and H & M.
If you have ventured out of La Manga Club, heading towards Cartagena, you might wonder what is going on in the very brightly multi coloured building to be seen in the distance on your right.
It is the factory that produces Cuarenta y Tres, Licor 43 which is a Spanish liquor made from 43 ingredients produced exclusively in Cartagena . The exact ingredients is a closely guarded family secret but it includes oranges, lemons, vanilla and herbs. The stripes on the factory building represent the ingredients and at the entrance the red stripes represent the red in the Spanish flag.
