La Manga Club facilities are "absolutely superb"
A footballer who recently spent time at La Manga Club has spoken of his high regard for the resort as he continues his recuperation from injury.

Stephen McManus, who plays in defence for Celtic, travelled to La Manga with the rest of the squad for a mid-season break before the campaign's final run-in and lavished praise on the resort on his return.

"The facilities at La Manga were absolutely superb," he recounted.

"The pitches were immaculate and the gaffer was able to do a lot of work and work some of the lads really hard.

Busy Celtic were not 'holidaying' in La Manga
Despite what their rivals may think, Celtic's footballers were far from holidaying at La Manga Club when they visited the resort recently.

Instead, the team were busy making use of the first-class training facilities - as well as taking advantage of the year-round climate that the Murcia region affords.

The break was particularly useful for defender Stephen McManus, who used the time in the Spanish sun to continue building up his fitness as he fights back from injury.

"It certainly wasn't a holiday.

Properties abroad 'not just for the rich and famous'
Buying property abroad is no longer the preserve of the upper echelons of society, according to one firm.

Foreign exchange brokerage Caxton FX revealed that it has seen a huge surge in enquiries from want-away Britons since the Budget last week.

James Hickman, managing director of the company, said it is not necessarily just the rich and famous who are seeking a new life abroad.

"These people are not celebrities or high profile people who figure in the Rich Lists but simply clients with some capital," he explained.

Alicante among the top tips for Irish holidaymakers
Holidaying to La Manga Club could be on the cards for many Irish travellers, judging by the latest figures on holiday trends this summer.

The Irish Tour Operators Federation claimed that despite a fall in the number of seats available through its members, certain destinations remain popular for summer 2009.

In particular, Reus, Alicante and the rest of Spain were the fifth most popular holiday hotspots revealed in the survey of travel agents.

That ranking places the Spanish resorts higher than locations such as Greece, Tenerife, Italy/Cyprus and Ibiza/Menorca.

Soccer success scuppers Spanish holiday plans for Rice
It is around this time of year that Falkirk assistant boss Brian Rice turns his thoughts towards holidays in Spain.

However, this time around, the professional has had to cancel his end-of-season break due to the team's successful cup run.

Falkirk, managed by John 'Yogi' Hughes, meet Rangers in the Scottish cup final - a fixture which clashes with his annual Spanish holiday.

And while the game is a dream come true for Rice, he is also bemoaning his luck after deciding to book the holiday early.

"Portuguese holiday? Sorry, I was in Spain!"
Hull City manager Phil Brown was recently reported to be taking a mid-season break in Portugal - but he insists he was actually in Spain.

The boss, whose team remain perilously close to relegation as the Premier League season edges to its close, was criticised for heading abroad, but he claims the reports were off the mark.

What's more, his flights to and from Spain were not booked with relaxation in mind, he told the Mirror.

"I understand you're in the public eye and everything you do is scrutinised but concerning those reports I was on holiday in Portugal, I can guarantee I was in Spain on a scouting mission," he explained.

Brits urged not to miss out on Spanish holiday bargains
Villa rentals in Spain remain a thriving market which Britons are advised not to miss out on, according to one firm.

The strength of the euro against the pound is putting many British investors off buying a holiday home in Spain but, despite currency fluctuations, they could still be losing out on bargains by not doing so, claims Spanish Hot Properties.

Nick Stuart, managing director of the company, said that the majority of buyers at present seem to be based in countries where the euro is the currency.

However, properties in Murcia can sell for less than 200,000 euros (£180,630), he added.
