Spanish coastline to be 'upgraded' |

Officials in Spain are planning to upgrade the stretch of coastline between Torremolinos and Marbella, in a bid to attract more holidaymakers.
Andalucia's Ministry for Tourism and the Western Costa del Sol's Association of Municipalities are planning to invest more than 5.6 million euros to revamp 12 beaches in the area, Euro Weekly reports.
Some of the beaches that will benefit from the investment include Los Alamos and La Carihuela in Torremolinos and Santa Ana in Benalmadena.

Springsteen to rock Benidorm? |

Music fans taking holidays in Spain may have the opportunity to see rock legend Bruce Springsteen perform later this year. The American singer, whose back catalogue contains hits such as Born in the USA and Born to Run, is reportedly in talks to play a gig in Benidorm this summer. According to Typically Spanish, officials at Benidorm Town Hall have earmarked July 31st as a possible performance date. Details have yet to be confirmed; however, it is thought that the singer will play a number of Spanish concerts as part of the promotional tour for his new album Working on a Dream.

Historic exhibition opens in Spain |

Those taking holidays in Spain this month will have the opportunity to learn more about the country's history at a new exhibition in Cartama. The exhibition, which showcases a number of Megalithic artefacts and reconstructions, will remain open until February 19th, Euro Weekly reports. Guided tours are available and the exhibition will open from Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm and from 4:30pm until 8:30pm. The exhibition will also present reconstructed images of village live in Spain during the Copper Age.

With half-term fast approaching, families across the UK will no doubt be planning their holidays to Spain and, according to flight search engine Skyscanner, parents can ease the stress of travelling with kids by following its 'top tips'. Those travelling with young children are advised to pack economically and prepare for delays by carrying enough essential items such as nappies and baby food. Checking in early is also advisable, particularly for large families that want to sit together. Providing children with toys to keep them amused is a must; however, holidaymakers are advised to leave messy games and noisy objects at home.

Use 'alternative' payment methods when travelling abroad |

Those taking holidays in Spain and other destinations overseas should carry a mixed wallet, with a combination of cards, cash and travellers cheques
Tim Pie, a spokesman for HSBC said holidaymakers should also notify their bank if they will be carrying out transactions abroad.
Holidaymakers failing to contact their bank could see their card blocked.
"In the vast majority of cases of we block a transaction and telephone customers so we would advise customers to keep their mobile and contact details with them when they travel," Mr Pie commented.
The classic travellers cheque is an excellent "fall-back" option for holidaymakers concerned about carrying money overseas, he added.

The euro may have gained strength against the pound in recent months, but holidays in Spain still offer excellent value.
That is according to the latest Post Office Holiday Money Report, which revealed that Spain is the best-value destination within the eurozone.
Results show that the cost of a three-course meal with wine is the same in Spain as it is in Bulgaria.
Furthermore, the average cup of coffee is priced at just £1.

Taking a holiday in Spain without travel insurance is "irresponsible", it has been claimed.
Speaking recently, James Furse, managing director of travel insurance firm greenbee.com, said it was "short-sighted" of people to neglect their insurance needs.

New station design for Alicante unveiled |

Visitors to La Manga Club who decide to take a trip to Alicante will soon be able to take advantage of an ultra-modern public transport interchange.
Typically Spanish reports that the designs for the new Central Station were unveiled by Alicante's mayor Sonia Castedo this week, revealing a futuristic image for the hub.
The man behind the striking appearance is architect Emilio Vicedo, while the project is set to cost up to 35 million euros.
As well as offering interchange services for local train lines, buses and trams, the station will be a stop for AVE high-speed trains.

Holidays in Spain 'are among the most affordable' |

Families looking to make the most of their money when heading abroad this year could do worse than renting an apartment in Spain, judging by the results of a new study.
The Post Office Holiday Money Report has listed the top ten most affordable destinations for British holidaymakers and ranked Spain in tenth place.
Indeed, despite a competitive performance from Greece and France, Spain was the only country from the eurozone to break into the top ten.
Andrew Spice of Post Office Travel Services said that given the performance of the economy and sterling, people from the UK will be checking prices carefully this year.
