Timing of BA strikes 'is surprising and disappointing' |
15th December 2009 |
The timing of the forthcoming British Airways' cabin crew strikes is surprising and disappointing.
This is according to John Tangney, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators aviation committee, who said that the action could be a "disaster" for families who are taking holidays to Spain and other destinations over the festive period.
"The problem now will be that very, very few seats will be left on other carriers over [the] Christmas period. The seats that are left will be in the premium cabins I would have thought," he explained.

Brits 'opting for ten-day holidays in Spain' |
14th December 2009 |
An increasing number of people are choosing to take ten-day holidays to Spain rather than two-week breaks, it has been suggested.
Sally Kirby, travel specialist at Black Tomato, said lots of Brits are opting for trips of this length as they can jet off without spending too much time away from the office.
She noted that a ten-day trip only requires five or six days off work and can be more manageable than holidaying for two weeks.
"As in exit the UK on Friday night and then fly back the following weekend Sunday night and straight into the office if they are really short on annual leave days," Ms Kirby explained.

All-inclusive holidays 'set to prove popular in 2010' |
14th December 2009 |
All-inclusive holidays to Spain and other destinations are likely to prove popular in 2010, it has been claimed.
According to travel providers Thomson and First Choice, bookings for breaks that include flights, accommodation and food have risen by 32 per cent in the last five years, with holidaymakers increasingly keen to stretch their money further.
"Their success has a lot to do with the decline in value of the pound against the euro, making self-catering in short-haul destinations relatively expensive," they noted.
All-inclusive breaks are also proving popular as many resorts have "become a lot more sophisticated in the last few years".

However, those taking flights to Spain over the festive season have been urged to check their airline baggage restrictions before leaving.
According to Stansted Airport, holidaymakers should ensure they pack any sharp objects such as tweezers in their hold luggage as these are not permitted in the general onboard cabin area.
Passengers are also reminded that any liquids being carried in hand luggage must be stored in containers with a capacity of no more than 100mls.
