Weddings in Spain and other sunny destinations are becoming increasingly popular, particularly with couples tying the knot for the second time.
According to figures from wedding specialists Marry Abroad, the cost of getting hitched in the UK comes in at a whopping £20,000, compared to £5,000 for a wedding overseas.
"Second time marriages are popular abroad too so people who have done the big church wedding first time round and don't want to do it again, then choose to get married abroad," she commented.
Getting married in a country such as Spain also means there is less chance of rain.

Getting married overseas is an excellent option for couples during the credit crunch, it has been suggested.
Speaking recently, Nick Gropper, managing director at Weddings and Honeymoons Abroad, said that getting married overseas in a destination such as Spain can be a much cheaper alternative to tying the knot in the UK.
"Getting married in the UK costs round about £20,000 whereas when you get married abroad, the average cost is about £4,000 so couples can still get married during a time when there is not much money floating around," he commented.
According to research published recently by Mintel, 16 per cent of Brits now get married abroad, with numbers increasing by 43 per cent since 2003.

05th March 2009 |

|
Officials at Alicante port have announced plans to make the area greener.
From September work will begin on creating a Mediterranean-style forest of 900 trees, Typically Spanish reports.
The area will also include sand dunes and "special 12-metre anti-dust screens to stop pollution and carbon dust reaching the city".
Although some local residents say they are sceptical about the plans, it is thought that the trees will absorb a significant amount of CO2 the same as 4,000 cars.
