Three-quarters 'want to learn a new skill' on holiday 30th April 2009
Lessons from a professional golfer or a tennis coach could be high on the agenda for many London-based holidaymakers, it has been suggested.

A survey found that nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of adults in the English capital would like to pick up a new skill while away.

Meanwhile, 52 per cent of Britons said in the YouGov and VisitScotland poll that they would like to take part in a relaxing activity ruing their break.

Perhaps golf holidays in Spain could be a good option for these people, as the year-round sunshine makes it a perfect destination for those who enjoy a gentle day on the fairways.

Free rounds on golf holidays in La Manga Club 30th April 2009
Those booking golf holidays in Spain now have even more reason to choose La Manga Club, after the resort revealed it will be offering free rounds to many guests.

Golfers who make their bookings for holidays at the Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe before May 18th will be entitled to a free round for each night they stay.

That equates to a saving of 71 euros (£48) a day, meaning golfers could be saving hundreds over a week-long break.

The deal applies to any holiday taken before July 10th or between August 23rd and 31st.

Antony and the Johnsons to play in Murcia 30th April 2009
Music lovers planning on holidaying in La Manga Club might be interested to learn that Antony and the Johnsons are planning a show in Murcia.

The band, fronted by Antony Hegarty, will be playing at the Auditorio de Murcia on May 7th - one of only three shows the New York-based outfit will be playing in Spain.

Tickets for the Murcia gig are still available, but those interested in renting a car in Murcia and driving to the gig may like to act soon, as the other two dates - in Madrid and San Sebastian - have already sold out.

News of the European tour comes after critical and commercial success for Antony's other band, the disco-influenced Hercules and Love Affair.

Gatwick expects boost in Alicante flights 29th April 2009
There could be a larger number of people taking flights to La Manga from Gatwick Airport than usual this weekend, it has been suggested.

Staff at the London hub are bracing themselves for some busy shifts as they welcome bank holiday travellers, with trips to Alicante Airport, which serves La Manga, among the most popular.

Gatwick is expecting to greet 325,000 passengers between Friday May 1st and Monday May 4th, with Alicante the fifth most in-demand destination.

As the airport is likely to be busier than normal, management has advised people to help keep the flow through security gates as smooth as possible by being prepared.

La Manga trip was key to promotion push, says Wolves hero 29th April 2009
A trip to La Manga was one of the key moments in the season for newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, believes their hero of the hour.

Kyel Reid, who came off the bench at the weekend to score a late equaliser and seal Wolves' place at the top of the Championship, said a break at the resort recharged the squad's batteries at exactly the right time.

The side had fallen into something of a rut but their time in the Murcia sunshine seemed to the trick, with a run of seven wins, three draws and two defeats coming afterwards.

"We hit a rough patch but the week we had at La Manga helped us and we needed that team spirit back," the 21-year-old, who is on loan from West Ham, told the Express and Star.

Busy Celtic were not 'holidaying' in La Manga 29th April 2009
Despite what their rivals may think, Celtic's footballers were far from holidaying at La Manga Club when they visited the resort recently.

Instead, the team were busy making use of the first-class training facilities - as well as taking advantage of the year-round climate that the Murcia region affords.

The break was particularly useful for defender Stephen McManus, who used the time in the Spanish sun to continue building up his fitness as he fights back from injury.

"It certainly wasn't a holiday.

Properties abroad 'not just for the rich and famous' 29th April 2009
Buying property abroad is no longer the preserve of the upper echelons of society, according to one firm.

Foreign exchange brokerage Caxton FX revealed that it has seen a huge surge in enquiries from want-away Britons since the Budget last week.

James Hickman, managing director of the company, said it is not necessarily just the rich and famous who are seeking a new life abroad.

"These people are not celebrities or high profile people who figure in the Rich Lists but simply clients with some capital," he explained.

Alicante among the top tips for Irish holidaymakers 28th April 2009
Holidaying to La Manga Club could be on the cards for many Irish travellers, judging by the latest figures on holiday trends this summer.

The Irish Tour Operators Federation claimed that despite a fall in the number of seats available through its members, certain destinations remain popular for summer 2009.

In particular, Reus, Alicante and the rest of Spain were the fifth most popular holiday hotspots revealed in the survey of travel agents.

That ranking places the Spanish resorts higher than locations such as Greece, Tenerife, Italy/Cyprus and Ibiza/Menorca.
