Three-quarters 'want to learn a new skill' on holiday
Lessons from a professional golfer or a tennis coach could be high on the agenda for many London-based holidaymakers, it has been suggested.

A survey found that nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of adults in the English capital would like to pick up a new skill while away.

Meanwhile, 52 per cent of Britons said in the YouGov and VisitScotland poll that they would like to take part in a relaxing activity ruing their break.

Perhaps golf holidays in Spain could be a good option for these people, as the year-round sunshine makes it a perfect destination for those who enjoy a gentle day on the fairways.

Pocket travel guides 'will remain popular'
The pocket travel guide is unlikely to go away anytime soon, despite the emergence of internet-based alternatives, it has been claimed.

A handy book detailing dos and don'ts has been taken on many a holiday in Spain over the years - and Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, does not expect this to change.

He explained that there are always occasions when holidaymakers will be pleased to have "a printed companion" with them.

Such times may include "when you are in a particularly remote place, or when you are in a particularly busy place and you might not want to be seen using an expensive piece of technology", said Mr Hall.

'Alicante flight' among most searched-for online terms
As holidaymakers surfed the web in March searching for their ideal spring or summer break, two words that came more readily than most were 'Alicante' and 'flight'.

According to research company Greenlight Search, the term 'Alicante flight' accounted for 12 per cent of all searches for short-haul holidays last month.

Overall, short-haul was the largest destination category in the firm's study, with 48 per cent of searches being for holidays in Spain and other nearby countries.

British holidaymakers planning on holidaying in La Manga Club may find that their flight takes them to Alicante, which is located close to the resort.

Gatwick expects boost in Alicante flights
There could be a larger number of people taking flights to La Manga from Gatwick Airport than usual this weekend, it has been suggested.

Staff at the London hub are bracing themselves for some busy shifts as they welcome bank holiday travellers, with trips to Alicante Airport, which serves La Manga, among the most popular.

Gatwick is expecting to greet 325,000 passengers between Friday May 1st and Monday May 4th, with Alicante the fifth most in-demand destination.

As the airport is likely to be busier than normal, management has advised people to help keep the flow through security gates as smooth as possible by being prepared.

Properties abroad 'not just for the rich and famous'
Buying property abroad is no longer the preserve of the upper echelons of society, according to one firm.

Foreign exchange brokerage Caxton FX revealed that it has seen a huge surge in enquiries from want-away Britons since the Budget last week.

James Hickman, managing director of the company, said it is not necessarily just the rich and famous who are seeking a new life abroad.

"These people are not celebrities or high profile people who figure in the Rich Lists but simply clients with some capital," he explained.

Investment planned for Alicante Airport
Those taking flights to La Manga in future could be greeted by an altogether bigger and better Alicante Airport.

The hub is to be the subject of a 353,000 euro (£316,500) investment that will increase its daily operations from 18 to 40, allowing even more people to take holidays to La Manga Club.

Completion of the expansion is expected by the end of the year, the World Aeronautical Press Agency reports, and forms part of a plan to increase capacity to 20 million passengers a year from 2020.

As well as enlarging terminal space, the airport is working on adding parking facilities for 4,200 vehicles and 73 buses.

Alicante 'perfect for fun Spanish getaway'
Those looking for some fun in the sun next month should consider a break in Alicante, it as been suggested.

According to flight search engine Skyscanner, a trip to Spain is perfect for people keen to escape the miserable weather over the May bank holiday weekend.
