New airbase means more flights to Spain 16th January 2008
Ryanair's announcement that it is to open its 25th European airbase in Birmingham means good news for those looking to take flights to Spain.

Out of the 20 new itineraries which will be launched from the regional airport, two will be routes to Spain.

Moreover, five million holidaymakers and other passengers are expected to travel through the airport on flights to Spain each year.

"Direct international routes are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham and the people of the West Midlands can now look forward to Europe's guaranteed lowest fares and best punctuality on 22 international routes with Ryanair," commented Ryanair's Michael O'Leary.

Wine tourism in Spain 15th January 2008
Wine tourism is a new trend in terms of Spanish holidays, it has been reported.

According to Viavinum, escaping the "hustle and bustle" of city life and staying at locations near to vineyards in Spain is also an "incentive" for managerial personnel and companies taking business trips.

It reports that as such some Spanish wineries are looking to adapt their business in order to cater to the new tourism trend.

According to Vivinim, one such location is Heretat de Cesilia, a winery located in Alicante.

Spanish holidays 'soar' 15th January 2008
Last year saw a substantial growth in the number of Britons taking flights to Spain, it has been reported.

Exceltur, the country's main tourism trade body, reported that the country attracted 59.7 million tourists in 2007, a two per cent increase in those taking Spanish holidays in 2006, Reuters reports.

Moreover, Reuters notes that Spain is the second most popular holiday destination in the world.

Spain offers "costa for everyone" 15th January 2008
Spanish holidays can cater to all tastes, with the country boasting a "costa for everyone", it has been reported.

According to the Times, Spain offers travellers a "costa for every taste", such as Galicia which appeals to those with nautical tastes such as sailors and surfers.

Meanwhile, the Costa de la Luz could be perfect for those seeking "windswept" lonely beaches or the more rugged beaches of Cantabria.

However, the Costa Brava is the "perfect" coast for Spanish holidays, the publication claims.

Spanish rail link 'nears completion' 15th January 2008
Holidaymakers hoping to travel to Spain by train should be able to bag two of the country's major cities in a speedy time frame in the coming months, it has been reported.

According to the Telegraph, the high-speed rail link which connects Madrid and Barcelona is nearing completion after a series of delays and looks likely to be finished in the imminent future.

The publication reports that travel between the two cities via the rail link should take two and a half hours - a whole two hours less than on current rail transport.

Meanwhile, holidaymakers wishing to make their entire Spanish holiday green can "catch the Eurostar to cross the city to the Gare d'Austerlitz and board the Elipsos Trenhotel, an overnight sleeper to Barcelona or Madrid" before continuing on to other regions such as La Manga.

New Spanish holiday island flight launched 14th January 2008
A new route to the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca has been announced by low-cost airline Ryanair.

The budget airline has announced that flights to Palma de Mallorca will be available from Shannon.

Ryanair also noted that it has doubled its flights to London from Shannon enabling the region to be opened up to travel from other Spanish locations.

"Today, we are giving free flights to Shannon to all of the passengers departing on Aer Lingus' last flight.

Costa Brava is 'best for families' 14th January 2008
The Costa Brava is a great location for those looking to enjoy Spanish family holidays, it has been reported.

According to the Telegraph, the region is great for families with young children as resorts like Tamariu have sheltered sandy beaches which are ideal for children to play on while parents watch from bordering fish restaurants.

The publication reports that Calella de Palafrugell is somewhat larger and has a traffic-free town centre.

Holidaymakers may wish to book their flights to Spain for travel to the Costa Brava during term time well in advance, as the newspaper notes that the mentioned regions can get busy in high-season.

Leisure travel grows at "historic" rate 14th January 2008
Flights to La Manga and other top holiday destinations continued to perform well in 2007, one new industry report has suggested.

According to the Recent Trends in Growth of UK Air Passenger Demand report from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), leisure travel to visit friends and relatives has continued to rise at or above the "historic growth rate" of six per cent per annum.

Meanwhile, the CAA notes that this type of travel accounts for 15 per cent of total traffic per annum.

"Looking to the longer term, demographic changes and ownership of homes abroad are likely to buttress air travel demand," Dr Harry Bush, group director of economic regulation.

Local airports 'equal less stress' 14th January 2008
Travellers taking flights to Spain from local airports is less stressful than travelling through a larger regional airport, it has been asserted.

According to Bournemouth Airport, queuing and moving through security at airports can be one of the most traumatic parts of a holiday - one that most holidaymakers don't enjoy.

However, a spokesperson for the hub added that choosing to fly from a regional airport instead of a more central regional base can reduce queuing time significantly.

"By choosing to go for a regional airport, the average queuing time is like three to five minutes and not 55 minutes," she continued.

Coach travel to Spain 'could be on the rise' 14th January 2008
Travel to luxury holidays in Spain by coach could be an increasingly common mode of transport for environmentally aware consumers, it has been reported.

According to the Coach Tourism Council (CTC), travellers in the UK may choose to head to Spain by coach because it is a "greener" and "nicer" way to travel.

Other benefits of coach travel are that it avoids the "hassle" of queuing at airports for passport and immigration controls.

"One thing about the coach market is that it has always offered good value for money and prices are very competitive.
