Brits take their troubles on to holiday fairways 06th October 2008
Renting an apartment in Spain is a great way to get away from it all, but many Brits could still find it difficult to leave their worries at home.

That is the finding of American Express Travellers Cheques, which recently polled the public and found that 36 per cent of younger travellers are afraid of returning to a burgled home.

Even the relaxing prospect of a few days' worth of golf was not enough to stop some people thinking about the mortgage and feeding the family, with 35 per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds admitting they worry about such matters on holiday.

"A holiday should be a time for rest and relaxation," said Sarah Harrison, director at American Express Travellers Cheques.

Golf holidays in Spain are a great way to unwind, but some prefer a more competitive edge to their escapades.

One such group is the golf team from Birstall, who are just one game away from sealing their place in the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic in Spain.

The club has not managed to reach the final since 2004, when it finished in third place, and so is itching for the opportunity to return to Spanish fairways.

Having recently defeated Woodhall Hills in a home tie, Birstall's players now have that dream within touching distance.

Golf and sun means Spain remains popular 07th August 2008
The high quality golf courses and reliable sunshine means Spain remains popular with foreigners even as the credit crunch continues to bite, it has been claimed.

According to Paul Rossiter of the Carrington Estates company, people who can afford luxury accommodation and golf course memberships are still travelling to the south-east of Spain.

For many people, a luxury holiday in Spain is enough for them to enjoy on an annual basis but some are so keen on the country that they invest choose to invest in property there.

And while some aspects of the Spanish property markets are struggling, those at the higher end of the market, where access to golf courses can be crucial, business remains strong, Mr Rossiter told Property Wire.

Kids get golf lessons during their holidays 01st August 2008
A number of children from South Wales are being taught how to play golf this summer as part of their holiday activities.

A scheme designed to get youngsters in the Neath and Port Talbot areas playing sports and staying active is underway and is being organised by the George Best Foundation and supported by the Ryder Cup.

The 70 or so children involved, who are aged between seven and 15, have been instructed on some of the basic shots in golf and it is hoped that they will get a taste for the game and look to hone their skills.

A local representative of the foundation behind the scheme Pat Lyons told the Port Talbot Guardian: "Their first day saw them fire shots towards a hole 40 yards away with the nearest players getting towels and shirts as prizes.

Lib Dem leader to holiday in Spain 18th July 2008
Do not be surprised to see one of the country's premier politicians on the golf courses of Spain while on holiday there this year.

Nick Clegg is apparently heading on a Spanish holiday in order to visit his in-laws, the BBC reports.

Should the leader of the Liberal Democrat party choose to pack his clubs, a trip to La Manga might be a good choice. The championship-standard courses are as testing to golfers as an election campaign is to an opposition minister.
