| Holidaymakers told: you can't put a price on a passport | 17th January 2008 | | Travellers hoping to book flights to Spain have been advised to take good care of their passports when taking Spanish holidays.
According to Essential Travel, the cost in real terms of having a passport stolen is more than the administration charge to have it replaced.
The insurance provider notes that there is a "rampant" black market for altered passports in a number of countries which could cause problems for holidaymakers.
"As well as exercising duty of care, travellers can buy a travel insurance policy to cover loss or theft of their passport, reducing or covering any additional costs they may experience through this situation," commented Essential Travel's Stuart Bensusan.

| Spanish islands mentioned in "best of" list | 16th January 2008 | | The Spanish holiday islands of La Palma and Majorca have been listed by one publication for their unique appeal to travellers.
According to the Telegraph, Majorca is "lovely" and the northwest of the island in particular is "beautiful" thanks to numerous orchards, "good restaurants" and old fashioned charm.
Meanwhile, La Palma is mentioned as the best "alternative Canary Island" and is described by the newspaper as a "forest-covered, mountainous island".
It is noted that the Caldera de Taburiente volcanic crater and national park region is "superb" for hiking.

| Brits save up to go travelling | 16th January 2008 | | Under a fifth of UK students are saving up to go on a year-out holiday, it has been reported.
According to Abbey, 19 per cent of British students are squirreling away their spends in order to take flights to Murcia and other locations following their graduation from university.
And although the bank also notes that twice as many students are putting aside funds for a deposit on homes, according to gapyear.com, money worries are not putting keen travellers off Spanish holidays and trips elsewhere.

| New airbase means more flights to Spain | 16th January 2008 | | Ryanair's announcement that it is to open its 25th European airbase in Birmingham means good news for those looking to take flights to Spain.
Out of the 20 new itineraries which will be launched from the regional airport, two will be routes to Spain.
Moreover, five million holidaymakers and other passengers are expected to travel through the airport on flights to Spain each year.
"Direct international routes are fundamental to the economic development of a city like Birmingham and the people of the West Midlands can now look forward to Europe's guaranteed lowest fares and best punctuality on 22 international routes with Ryanair," commented Ryanair's Michael O'Leary.

| Wine tourism in Spain | 15th January 2008 | | Wine tourism is a new trend in terms of Spanish holidays, it has been reported.
According to Viavinum, escaping the "hustle and bustle" of city life and staying at locations near to vineyards in Spain is also an "incentive" for managerial personnel and companies taking business trips.
It reports that as such some Spanish wineries are looking to adapt their business in order to cater to the new tourism trend.
According to Vivinim, one such location is Heretat de Cesilia, a winery located in Alicante.

| Spanish holidays 'soar' | 15th January 2008 | | Last year saw a substantial growth in the number of Britons taking flights to Spain, it has been reported.
Exceltur, the country's main tourism trade body, reported that the country attracted 59.7 million tourists in 2007, a two per cent increase in those taking Spanish holidays in 2006, Reuters reports.
Moreover, Reuters notes that Spain is the second most popular holiday destination in the world.

| Spain offers "costa for everyone" | 15th January 2008 | | Spanish holidays can cater to all tastes, with the country boasting a "costa for everyone", it has been reported.
According to the Times, Spain offers travellers a "costa for every taste", such as Galicia which appeals to those with nautical tastes such as sailors and surfers.
Meanwhile, the Costa de la Luz could be perfect for those seeking "windswept" lonely beaches or the more rugged beaches of Cantabria.
However, the Costa Brava is the "perfect" coast for Spanish holidays, the publication claims.

| Spanish rail link 'nears completion' | 15th January 2008 | | Holidaymakers hoping to travel to Spain by train should be able to bag two of the country's major cities in a speedy time frame in the coming months, it has been reported.
According to the Telegraph, the high-speed rail link which connects Madrid and Barcelona is nearing completion after a series of delays and looks likely to be finished in the imminent future.
The publication reports that travel between the two cities via the rail link should take two and a half hours - a whole two hours less than on current rail transport.
Meanwhile, holidaymakers wishing to make their entire Spanish holiday green can "catch the Eurostar to cross the city to the Gare d'Austerlitz and board the Elipsos Trenhotel, an overnight sleeper to Barcelona or Madrid" before continuing on to other regions such as La Manga.

| Sporty types 'should take flights to La Manga' | 15th January 2008 | | While many holidaymakers travel overseas to enjoy a well earned rest with the occasional dip in the sea and lots of lounging around on the beach, this is not always the case.
For sporty types, the above is more akin to hell than heaven, however Spanish holidays do not need to be restricted to one or the other.
According to one commentator, La Manga Club is the "best" choice of Spanish holiday for sporty types.
The Telegraph reports that for those taking flights to Murcia, the resort is only 30 minutes drive away and caters to adults and children wishing to improve their skills in golf, tennis and football.

| New Spanish holiday island flight launched | 14th January 2008 | | A new route to the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca has been announced by low-cost airline Ryanair.
The budget airline has announced that flights to Palma de Mallorca will be available from Shannon.
Ryanair also noted that it has doubled its flights to London from Shannon enabling the region to be opened up to travel from other Spanish locations.
"Today, we are giving free flights to Shannon to all of the passengers departing on Aer Lingus' last flight.
