 Those enjoying their golf holidays in Spain at La Torre Golf Resort may wish to take a break from the destination's 18-hole course and head to the nearby Murcia Cathedral for a taste of local history.
The 14th century religious site is free to enter and boasts a mix of impressive architectural designs, covering the gothic, baroque and renaissance periods.
Among the most iconic landmarks in the city, it was built up over the course of 600 years and is famous for its bell tower, which is over 90 metres in height and took two centuries to complete.
Murcia Cathedral is one of a number of locations the La Torre website suggests is worth a visit, along with the Roman Theatre, which is just 20 minutes away from the resort.

 Spain is an excellent place to visit for a vacation during the summer, according to one travel company.
Recommending a number of healthy trips for the family this year, First Choice claimed that the country "makes a perfect summer holiday destination".
It focused on health breaks to show the options that are out there for travellers who made new year's resolutions to treat their body better and stay fit throughout 2010.
One ideal location to visit is La Manga Club, a luxury holiday resort in Spain known the world over for its top class leisure and sports facilities.

Free admission to Norway women friendlies at La Manga |

 Those who have decided to take their holidays in Spain at La Manga Club this week can watch three top class women's football matches for free.
At 18:00 local time today, Norway - who finished in third place at the 2009 European Championship - will take on 2007 World Cup quarter-finalists China in a friendly at the luxury resort's football centre, with admission costing absolutely nothing.
Following that, at the same time on Friday January 15th, Norway will face off against Women's Euro 2009 runners-up England, who have been training at the facility this week.
The final game of the series takes place at 16:00 on Saturday January 16th and will see Norway play China again in a rematch.

El Puntal 'raises the bar' for horse riding holidays in Murcia |

 The owner of El Puntal Equestrian Centre, next to La Manga Club resort in Murcia, has claimed his facility will be able raise the bar for quality of service after the appointment of a new chief instructor.
In an announcement published by the Leader, Nigel Williams said the centre "can now offer a standard of teaching and horse care not previously seen" in the region as a result of Eduardo Rius Brugue taking on the role, claiming that his "experience, knowledge and ability is second to none".
He added that El Puntal can now aim to become "truly top class", which would fit in well with its neighbour La Manga - a luxury destination for holidays in Spain, world renowned for its professional-standard sport offerings.
Mr Brugue, who will also take on the position of general manager, has been teaching for 25 years and has worked alongside successful Olympians Courtney King and Beatriz Ferrer-Salat.

La Manga Club offers free nights for early birds |

 La Manga Club, the luxury holiday resort in Spain, is offering travellers the opportunity to spend seven nights there for the price of five during the May half-term break.
The five-star destination, which is renowned for its world class sports facilities, announced the two nights free special this week, making it available to everyone booking a vacation for the May 24th to June 5th period before February 28th.
Guests already receive complimentary access to the resort's fitness centre and spa, but those taking advantage of this special offer will enjoy a number of other benefits, such as free golf and spa treatments and free kids' club sessions.
They can also cut down on accommodation costs, with rooms for children aged 12 and under at half price and the option to save up to €776 (£693) per double room.

 A three-night stay at La Manga Club during May half-term could involve a free Spanish tapas meal for those booking soon.
The luxury holiday resort in Spain has launched a host of special offers for early birds securing their trips for the May 24th to June 5th season before February 28th, one of which is a complimentary repast at restaurant La Bodega.
Noted for its vintage Spanish wine cellar, the eatery is said to offer traditional, local cuisine, packed with "intense and lively flavours" and is one of a wide variety of dining options at La Manga.
The destination has over 20 bars and restaurants, catering to fans of Spanish, Asian, Mexican, Italian and American food.

New York Red Bulls preparing for football break at La Manga |

 New York Red Bulls MLS team are in practice this week ahead of a football break at La Manga Club, where they will play a number of exhibition games.
According to Big Apple Soccer, most of the team is currently in New Jersey preparing for the trip to the luxury holiday resort in Spain, a place where they have found their form in past pre-season warm-ups.
Arriving too late to compete in the La Manga Cup - which they won during their previous incarnation as the MetroStars - the Red Bulls will nevertheless compete against several teams in the competition between January 20th and February 4th.
La Manga Club famously attracts some of the best football teams from Europe to its training facilities, but it is also popular among US sides.

Rugby legends set for La Manga golf tournament |

 A number of famous rugby players will enjoy the delights of La Manga Club this May as the Wooden Spoon Celebrity Rugby Golf Classic takes place.
Former British and Irish Lions captain Gavin Hastings will be at the luxury holiday resort in Spain for the May 19th to 23rd event, along with the most-capped forward in rugby union history Jason Leonard and fellow England internationals Matt Perry and Mark Regan.
A statement announcing the tournament was published this week by Golf Monthly and Wooden Spoon claimed to be "delighted" to be staging it at "the beautiful La Manga Club".
Those taking part will stay at the deluxe Principe Felipe Hotel La Manga Club and will compete at the resort's North and South championship courses in teams of three, with each group including one rugby star.

Anderlecht train at La Manga Club |

 Anderlecht have been in training at La Manga Club this week ahead of their match against Dutch side FC Twente.
The two teams will clash at La Manga Club Football Centre at 17:00 local time today (January 12th), with those staying at the luxury holiday resort in Spain able to watch for free.
Photographs of Anderlecht - historically one of Europe's most successful football clubs with a Uefa Cup, two Cup Winners' Cups and two Super Cups to their name - training are available via the official La Manga Club blog, along with snaps of other big football teams to play there recently, such as VfB Stuttgart.
An article posted on the Easier Travel website this week claimed that the La Manga resort "boasts the best facilities in southern Europe for professional sports teams" and this is reflected by those who have taken to its pitches in recent years.

Steph Houghton to make England return at La Manga |

 Leeds Carnegie midfielder Steph Houghton will train with England for the first time in over two years this week as the side heads to La Manga for a five-day camp.
The Guardian quoted the 21-year-old as saying while she will not be playing any full matches until at least next month - meaning she will miss the friendly at the end of the La Manga trip against Norway - she is looking forward to practising again after an eight-month layoff.
"I'll be back in the international environment and after two months of non-contact training, I can hopefully play in some small-sided games to start getting my touch and awareness back," she remarked.
Houghton has suffered numerous injuries over the last few years, putting her out of the World Cup in 2007 and the European Championships in 2009.
