'Read up on tipping etiquette' before holidays in Spain
Brits should ensure they read up on tipping etiquette before taking holidays to Spain and elsewhere, it has been claimed.

A recent study carried out by TripAdvisor found that 74 per cent of travellers do not check what is expected of them before jetting abroad.

"Tipping can be socially awkward and can cause endless embarrassment, especially on holiday when we are unfamiliar with local customs," said Emyr Thomas, director of concierge and lifestyle management company Bon Vivant.

She added that in some countries it is considered rude to leave money at all.

Paul Simmons, general manager of easyJet UK, said Brits are keen to escape the dreary weather and post-Budget blues.

"The majority seem to be seeking a little winter sun with families heading for the beaches and couples seeking romantic getaways in some of the great cities of southern Europe," he commented.

Spending time apart 'is key to surviving family holidays in Spain'
The key to surviving family holidays in Spain and elsewhere is spending enough time apart.

This is according to Bob Atkinson, a spokesperson for Travelsupermarket.com, who suggested that groups with older children should make sure they go to a place where there are plenty of activities to enjoy together and plenty of things to do apart.

"Do some things separately, do some things differently and you can still join up and chat about it later and have a meal out later," he explained.
