Spanish government plans 400 million tourism boost

The Spanish government has announced plans to make a massive investment in the country's tourism industry, it has been revealed.

Deputy prime minister Maria Teresa Fernandez said that 400 million euros would be used to modernise the tourism industry and make holidays in Spain even more appealing.

Tourism is responsible for 11 per cent of the country's gross domestic product and the government is keen for this figure to remain high, despite the credit crunch, eTurboNews reports.

In the first ten months of the year more than 51 million people visited Spain, representing a slight decrease on 2007.
