What to do and See in Murcia

Located in the south eastern corner of mainland Spain, Murcia has been attracting visitors for many years, and is one of the countrys most popular destinations. There is plenty to see and do for tourists of all ages, including walking tours, shopping, water sports and golf, just to name a few, the resort of La Manga Club offers a few different water activities alongside the golf and tennis club. La Manga golf course has three 18 hole courses varying in difficulty and also hosts a large practise area. These golf courses are famous around the globe for holding international tournaments over the years.

Another place to visit whilst in Murcia is the local zoo, Terra Natura Murcia, where you can see a huge range of creatures without having to peer through cages as a lot of the enclosures are open in a certain way in which the public can feel in contact with the animals, for example you can feed the giraffe through their open topped enclosure. The parks staff members are also on hand to provide fascinating information about each species.

Murcia is perhaps best known for its outdoor activities. This is probably down to the superb climate. The Mar Menor is the most popular place to go for water sports in Murcia as it offers everything from kayaking to parasailing and caters for every individuals needs, whether you are a pro or a complete beginner.

If you are not in to outdoor activities and you prefer a calm day out then there are many historical buildings within Murcia to visit. The first culture stop in Murcia has to be the Cathedral de Santa Maria. Majestic and structurally stunning, the cathedral's sophisticated decorations both inside and out are worth a look. There is also an old theatre in Murcia, The Teatro de Romea, which attracts people from all over to come and view its variety of paintings it now houses.

If you prefer relaxing all day, then Murcia is perfect, with year round sunshine, things to do in Murcia often revolve around spending time on the beach. The coastlines of Murcia offer a great place for the whole family to relax and swim in the calm waters. An alternative to relaxing on the beach is to go for a mud bath. Although some people may not believe it, it is said to be extremely good for the skin and it makes a change from your usual day routine.

For the people who love to shop, the long, wide streets in Murcia are packed with high street brands, many of which will be familiar to you. The indoor shopping centre Nueva Condiminium Centre is huge, with over 250 shops so if you feel like a change from relaxing on the beach or touring around the local towns, this is a nice change to spend a bit of money on yourself or find some lovely souvenirs to take home. If you don't like all the hustle and bustle of big shopping centres, then there is also a more authentic and rustic Spanish shopping experience along the smaller streets near the cathedral, which are scattered with boutiques and independent shops.
