Basking in sunshine for over 300 days a year and located beside Spain's famous Mar Menor, La Manga Club is the perfect destination for those looking to try their hand at some water-based activities this year.
Covering more than 170-square-kilometres, the Mar Menor is Europe's largest saltwater lagoon and is often referred to as the Little Sea. The waters of the Mar Menor are around six degrees C warmer than the surrounding sea water and it is no more than seven metres deep.
The area around La Manga Club is dotted with dozens of picturesque beaches and coves, making it ideal for activities such as sailing.
With its warm, gentle waters, the Mar Menor is particularly good for those trying their hand at sailing for the first time. Holidaymakers can also hire a boat with or without a skipper and enjoy a leisurely voyage around the lagoon. A number of different types of craft are available for rent, including row boats, powerboats, yachts and kayaks, escorted jet-ski rides are also on offer to those keen to explore the area at speed.
As well as exploring the area around La Manga, guests can discover just what lies beneath the warm waves by learning how to scuba dive.
Adventure Divers, a specialist centre are based at the Las Lomas Village from Easter to November, offers a complete range of PADI diver training courses and caters for everyone from beginners to dive masters.
The centre offers refresher courses to those who have trained previously and children over the age of eight can also get involved and learn to dive.
With its warm, non-tidal waters, Mar Menor is a great place for beginners to take their first tentative steps into the underwater world. The closeness of the lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea means it is home to a unique collection of marine life. Those diving can expect to come across moray eels, groupers, rays, octopus and barracuda, as well as coral, sunfish and even the occasional turtle.
The nearby Islas Hormigas marine reserve is also an excellent dive site. This protected area offers some of the country's best diving conditions and water temperatures often reach a comfortable 30 degrees C during the summer months. Visibility is also excellent and most divers find that they are able to see for between 12 and 15 metres.
Some of the courses available from the Adventure Divers centre include rescue diver, advanced open water diver, emergency first response and dive master. Speciality courses are also on offer to those interested to learn about underwater photography, navigation and shipwrecks.
For those who prefer more relaxing activities, La Manga Club is also home to its own private cove, La Cala, which is situated around ten minutes away from the resort and can be reached by a shuttle bus from the hotel.
Guests can enjoy a day of sunbathing at La Cala, or perhaps take a dip in the sea before dining on fresh Mediterranean seafood at the exclusive La Cala beach restaurant.
La Manga also boasts several swimming pools, including a heated pool and a 25-metre indoor pool at the spa. The resort also has a separate baby pool, ensuring that water sports enthusiasts of all ages are catered for.
