Travelling as a family with teenagers can be a real challenge, but not at La Manga, every parent of a teenager or two is (unfortunately) only too familiar with how difficult it can be finding a holiday that ticks all the boxes for teenagers and the rest of the family. At La Manga Club there is a huge variety of activities as well as a diversity of age groups, which will reassure you that teenage tantrums here are highly unlikely.
One of the first things you will notice when you start planning your holiday to La Manga Club resort is that the flight between your chosen UK airport and either Alicante or Murcia (San Javier) Airport is relatively short. Whats more, irrespective of which airport you have chosen, the transfer from airport to resort is also relatively short. Why is this important when travelling with teenagers in tow? It is important because they have a tendency to get bored, to get into airports and on to planes and seek out things to spend money on and then they get bored again at the other end. If you plan your journey right, you could find yourself pretty much door to door in an afternoon. With your hire car organised at the airport and your route planned, everything should be plain sailing, helping to keep any teenage tantrums at bay before you even arrive.
One thing to do well in advance of your holiday, in order to ensure total teenage pleasure, is to agree which activities you’re going to pre-book. Pre-booking during high season is pretty much essential, and because you’re trying to avoid teenage tantrums there’s little point in showing them what they could have done once you arrive! So do make sure you pre-book activities. The other thing to do is to pre-book bike hire for your teenagers. Bike hire will give them the freedom to get around, without relying on you to get them from A to B. It’ll also encourage them to explore just a bit further afield (assuming you’re ok with that of course!).
When it comes to pre-booking activities, with golf, tennis, football, rugby, swimming, cricket, hiking, biking, dancing and even Gaelic football on the list of possibilities, even the most picky sports person is likely to find something to float their boat. La Manga Club runs a host of sporting academies during high season (and some off season), whereby participants are split into age groups and mixed with fellow players of similar ability. Taking advantage of the sports academies for a family with teenagers is the perfect way to get a ready-made group of friends with shared interests together right from day 1. Although the academies are quite structured in their nature, you’ll find that your teenager will be keen to perfect what they’ve learned at the academy with their newfound friends outside of academy sessions. This not only allows them to perfect their sporting prowess, it also means that they’re safe and they’re doing what they enjoy, with other people who share their love of that sport. All of this means that it’s pretty much win, win, all round.
While they’re doing this stuff, of course mum and dad have time to go off and do their thing, in the knowledge that the teenagers are happy and doing what they want. Once you arrive at the resort, it would be difficult to find fault, no matter who you are or what age you are, particularly if you’re into sport and the great outdoors. Probably one of the first things to do with your teenagers when you arrive is pick up the hire bikes you organised beforehand. That way, they can immediately get out to explore and work out the lay of the land. Depending on the age of your teenagers, you may want to put some ground rules in place about where they can go and where they can’t; what happens if there’s a problem and when they need to show up back at your accommodation, but of course that’s up to you. It won’t take long before they feel like they’re part of the surroundings at La Manga Club and will be showing you where everything is!
One thing’s for sure, if you’ve had one too many holidays where you seem to be constantly trying to keep everyone happy and always seem to fail, you’re on to a dead cert at La Manga Club. Get your planning done well in advance, involve your teenager in the decisions about what to pre-book, and sit back and wait for a great holiday. All you need to do is ask any teenager who’s been to La Manga if you’re not yet convinced!
