Tiger Woods has won the US PGA championship, giving him his 13th professional major title and putting him only five behind the record of 18 majors, held by Jack Nicklaus.
The 89th PGA was the hottest major golf championship ever recorded, and at one point Woods had seen his lead reduced to just one stroke after a three-putt bogey on the 14th.
However, Woods has gone on to lose a tournament when he has led by more than one going into the last round, and the 14th was as close as the competition got.
"I did some serious yelling at myself going to the 15th tee," the champion said. The quick pep talk seemed to have done the trick.
Woods went on to hit two perfect shots on the 15th, before holing a ten-footer for a birdie. As the shot fell, he pointed to the cup, safe in the knowledge that things were now his to lose.
The birdie gave him a lead of two, meaning victory was secure, provided he played things safely over the last three holes. With this done, a fourth PGA championship was in the bag.
Tiger Woods now holds more majors than the rest of the top ten in the world put together. At 31-years-old, he is on target to beat Nicklaus' record of 18 professional Majors. Nicklaus was four years older when he won his 13th title.
