The beaches of Murcia

Spain's La Manga Club is a popular choice among holidaymakers with an active and adventurous constitution.

Sports such as scuba diving, tennis, cricket, football and golf are but a few of the activities that Britons on Spanish holidays can engage in while staying at the La Manga Club.

However, for individuals who prefer a more relaxed holiday, the Murcia region boasts hundreds of beaches perfect for travellers who wish to sunbathe and explore the sandy coves of the Costa Calida.

Murcia's coastline stretches out over 100 miles and more than 200 beaches lie between the seas of Mar Menor and the Mediterranean.

The spectacular Costa Dorada is located within close range of Murcia, which is serviced by low-cost airlines like easyJet.

EasyJet recently announced that a new route is to be introduced between Murcia and Newcastle in May 2008, with 41,000 passengers set to travel on the thrice weekly service to enjoy family holidays in Spain.

David Osborne, easyJet UK general manager, commented: "Murcia has proven to be a popular destination from other easyJet bases in the UK and now independent travellers from the north-east can take advantage of this new service from our Newcastle base, to one of the Spain's most popular cities which provides easy access to the picturesque Costa Dorada."

Murcia has a mild climate and low rainfall all year round making it popular for travellers who wish to enjoy beach holidays in the winter as well as the summer.

Mar Menor translates as the minor sea and is a coastal lagoon which lies on the coast of La Manga.

The coastline of Mar Menor itself is made up of around 35 beaches. El Vivero is a typical Mar Menor beach with shallow calm waters and is composed of golden rippled sand.

Playa Chica, Aliseos, Antillas, Banco del Tabal, Barco Perdido, Cala del Pino, Cavanna and Darsena dos Mares are but a few of the beaches that holidaymakers can visit and relax on.

The beaches of Mar Menor are also popular for those on family holidays in Spain as many have lifeguard services and the waters are shallow and calm.
