'Take travel guides' on holidays to Spain

01st May 2008
Holidaymakers who take a good quality travel guide with them on their flights to Spain can "improve" their holiday, it has been reported.

According to Andy Riddle, managing director of the travel guide publishers Footprint, well-written travel guides produced by dedicated authors and publishers can make the difference on a holiday in Spain or elsewhere.

Mr Riddle added that when the writer "really knows the country" guidebooks can be a "shortcut" to opportunities that might in other circumstances be overlooked.

A travel guide market research report published by professional travel photographer Jim Batty in April 2006 found that the most likely person in the UK to buy a travel guide is a professional and busy Londoner aged between 25 and 34 years old.

"I would not say that guide books should be followed slavishly. A good guide book is a great starting point for getting to understand a country and the choices you have when on the road," Mr Riddle concluded.
