Villa rentals in Spain are not, as it is sometimes believed, the preserve of older couples who are veterans when it comes to holidays in Spain. Nor are they favoured only by families with children - although indeed this demographic undoubtedly accounts for a large portion of the Spanish villa rental market.
Indeed Spanish holiday villas are becoming an increasingly viable option for all types of holidaymakers, in particular those travelling from Britain who are feeling the pinch of the credit crunch.
Spanish holiday villas are also popular properties to rent for those who are perhaps not feeling the effects of the credit crunch as much as others, such as celebrities. The likes of Alex Curran and Frank Lampard have recently been spotted enjoying breaks in luxury holiday resorts in Spain and its surrounding islands.
However, if cost is an object for you, in opting for Spanish villas over costly hotels, travellers can keep an eye on what they are spending, in particular when it comes to the food budget.
The Telegraph recently issued advice that might be useful to those staying in Spanish holiday villas this summer and are looking forward to enjoy fantastic holidays without feeling the pinch.
According to the publication, food and drink can be the most costly element of a holiday after accommodation and travel costs, although for holidaymakers staying in Spanish villas, there are a number of ways in which eating in and out can be fun and cost effective.
Eating at lunchtime rather than in the evening is a good tactic, the publication claims, as there is ample opportunity to "linger" over your meal and the lunchtime menus can be half the cost of the evening tariff - especially if you opt for a set-course menu.
Another advantage of this tactic is that you won't be going to bed on an overly full stomach and will not necessarily need to eat again in later on in the evening.
In terms of beverages, wine ordered by the carafe can be cheaper - especially when you choose a local wine, which will also match more of the dishes on the menu in theory.
For those who prefer to cook in their Spanish villas, try visiting the local markets of Cartagena and Murcia for the finest ingredients.
"Just as in Britain, seasonal fruit and vegetables will nearly always be cheaper and fresher in local markets. In most rural areas there will be a market within reasonably easy reach every day of the week - local tourist offices can supply a list of market days," the newspaper advises.
Ross Elder, managing director of holidaylettings.co.uk, recently pointed to the possibility of villa holidays becoming more popular during the current economic climate.
"What we're seeing is people aren't compromising on wanting a holiday - they're quite committed about that. Either because it's something they feel they need for their wellbeing, or whether it's something they feel peer pressure to do - either in terms of their children or their work colleagues," he noted.
Mr Elder added that as such people are beginning to look at the different ways in which they can enjoy a holiday.
However, he added that a more likely reason for choosing holidays in Spanish villas is for the convenience they offer.
"The research shows that's not the main reason people choose self-catering at the moment, it's the flexibility; it's the choices
it's the space you can have," he added.
Still, Mr Elder claimed that there was the potential for villa rentals in Spain to be boosted by the credit crunch, as self catering accommodation becomes more of a selling point.
Those holidaying in La Manga Club can choose from a selection of Spanish villas, including studio townhouses, one, two and three-bedroom townhouses and two and three-bedroom apartments with a view.
