Ryanair the best low-cost airline operating flights to Alicante
17th August 2007
Ryanair is the best of seven low-cost airlines currently operating flights to Alicante, according to website flightontime.info.
Using Civil Aviation Authority data, the website shows that the Irish airline, which flies to Alicante from Liverpool John Lennon and London Stansted airports, had average delays of just 11.2 minutes on all flights over the first quarter of 2007.
The success of budget airlines has been attributed to passenger willingness to sacrifice customer service for cheap fares, according to the Air Transport Users Council.
But "if the price is so low that it starts impacting on things like losing bags and punctuality, that means customer service is being sacrificed too much", spokesman James Fremantle commented.
The worst offender for punctuality, according to flightontime.info, was Glasgow-based airline flyglobespan, which flies to Alicante from Durham, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
Average delays for flyglobespan over the period January through to March 2007 were a staggering 25 and a half minutes, based on 2,061 flights surveyed. This figure rose to a whopping two hours and 35 minutes of average delays on flights from Manchester during the same period.
Of the other five "low-cost" airlines, which comprised bmibaby, Flybe, easyJet, Jet2 and Monarch scheduled, bmibaby was ranked second and Flybe third. Fourth ranked was easyJet, with average delays of 15.1 minutes.
Travelling with children is never easy, however, low-fare airline Monarch has announced plans to introduce a new complementary 10kg hold baggage allowance for infants.
Speaking recently, the airline said that as well as offering parents this extra allowance, prams, pushchairs and car seats will continue to be carried for free..
