Among the delights of a Spanish family holiday is the chance for everyone to enjoy leisure activities and soak up the sunshine at the same time. And one of the best things about jetting off to La Manga Club is the chance to get children excited about sport and physical activities, which provide both fun and fitness.
In fact, Cancer Research has found that people's attitudes towards body weight can stem from their habits at a very young age - meaning exercise and healthy living may be more important than ever. The charity suggests engaging in activities and sports as a family can really encourage children to be healthier in later life.
With this in mind, a new range of academy courses at La Manga Club could be just the thing for young ones on holiday. For 2008, new packages including dance, tennis, cricket and football are a great way to keep the kids entertained and help them socialise while staying active.
First up is the La Manga Club Dance Academy, scheduled for the following dates:
April 7th to 18th May 26th to 30th July 14th to August 29th October 20th to 24th
These fantastic morning and afternoon workshops involve the teaching of street dance, as seen in pop videos by Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez. It is a fabulously funky form of jazz where students learn a full routine to a recent chart track and perform it at the end of the week.
Sessions run for age groups of 8 and older, 12 and older and 16 and older, with prices ranging from 90 to 110. There is a 20 per cent discount for those who sign up for both morning and afternoon sessions.
The Cricket Academy at La Manga is also running in 2008, with three sessions on the calendar:
March 31st to April 18th May 26th to 30th July 28th to August 22nd
Run by Ian Hutchinson, La Manga Club's top professional coach and an ex-opening batsman for Middlesex, all equipment is provided and it is open for both boys and girls. Prices are set at 160 for owners and 180 for residents, with the coaching divided into two age categories - seven to 12 years old and 13 to 15 years old. Daily or weekly sessions can be scheduled.
A Football Academy running from Monday to Friday is also set for next season. Dates are as follows:
February 11th to 22nd March 24th to April 18th May 26th to 30th June 30th to August 29th October 20th to 31st
Age groups split the training into four sessions - six and under, nine and under, 12 and under, and 15 and under - with prices starting at 135 and going up to 200.
There are some great offers for the Football Academy, including a ten per cent discount when a booking of two or more weeks is made, plus a free Adidas football for all the youngsters who attend for a full week. In addition, those who take part can get money off the entry fee for La Manga's Mini World Cup - a fun footie tournament.
The Mini World Cup is set to take place on the same dates as detailed above, with admission open to boys and girls between seven and 15 years old. Lasting around 90 minutes, the mini competition involves organised matches which are all supervised by professionals from La Manga Club. The price is 15 for weekdays and 17 for World Cup Saturday, which follows a similar format but lasts two hours. Prizes are also included!
Last but not least are the La Manga Club Sport Packages, offering the chance for kids to have a go at tennis, football and cricket during the same week. Different combinations are available, with all three costing 410 per person for owners and 460 per person for residents.
