It comes as little surprise that one of the many things that draw people to La Manga Club is the weather, with this part of the globe attracting a reputed 3000 plus hours of sunshine a year, the attraction becomes clear for all to see. Acting as a great backdrop to this truly stunning resort, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Seas are the perfect spot to either take up, or perfect a water sport, swim or simply enjoy a few days relaxing on the beach.
The Mar Menor, near where La Manga Club is situated is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe. With its privileged position between the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, La Manga Club resort has easy access to plenty of coastline as well as a real Aladdins cave of little fishing ports and lively towns and villages, with something to offer everyone.
With its abundance of sunshine, this whole coasts draws visitors from near and far to enjoy the pretty much all year round warmth on offer. While the La Manga resort boasts its very own private beach, there are numerous surrounding beaches and villages that are equally well worth a visit during your stay. The ideal option, to really maximise your visit to this area, is to avail of car hire when you arrive at either Alicante or Murcia (San Javier) Airport. Organising things this way means that you neither need to worry about your airport to resort transfers nor about getting from A to B while you’re on holiday. With such a huge number of options on your doorstep, it really would be a shame to miss out on what’s on offer.
A great place for people from all walks of life, thanks to the shallow waters of the lagoon, families are particularly drawn to this area in great number, especially during the school holidays. Out of season though, the region has its fair share of tourists, which are both long and short stay visitors.
The resort’s own beach is only a few minutes by car from the centre of La Manga Club. Also serviced by the resort’s shuttle bus, you owe it to yourself to steal at least a day there during your stay. A small, sheltered cove, the beach, which is known as La Cala, is sandy with shallow waters, making it ideal for families and sun worshippers alike. A well maintained beach, La Cala has recently gained blue flag status which means it’s safe for swimming as well as paying respect to a host of environmental issues. The beach is well equipped with sun loungers, parasols, a lifeguard and showers. And when it comes to nutrition, the La Cala Restaurant is right on the cliff side, tempting you to taste its wares as the perfect interlude to your day relaxing on the sand.
Outside of the resort itself but still in the lagoon, there are a number of towns and villages that boast great beaches and are well worth a visit for many different reasons. The likes of La Manga del Mar Menor is a busy nearby resort, with plenty of hustle and bustle, both by day and by night. With its unspoilt view of the Mediterranean, Cabo de Palos is more of a harbour than a beach resort, but has some seriously good fish restaurants, making it a place well worth visiting. Los Alcazares is an old and traditional fishing port with some great beaches as well as an abundance of shopping, restaurants and bars. Thereafter, if your fancy takes you, you could explore Santiago de la Ribera and enjoy its promenades and classic Spanish seafront landscape. On the Med side, the beaches at Calblanque and Calnegre are both “must sees”. So, all in all, when you head off to La Manga Club, you’ll be well spoilt for choice beach-wise.
