Introduction to Murcia in Spain

Murcia is in the southeast of Spain, in the region of the same name Murcia is one of Spains least known regions, even among the Spaniards themselves, and first-time visitors are often surprised by the variety in this small region. The region of Murcia is in a privileged position right at the centre of the Mediterranean Peninsular. Murcia has many towns and cities rich with historic buildings, some dating as far back as the Romans. There are also modern shops, street markets and leisure facilities to offer for visitors. Governing bodies in this region are very anxious to protect the national heritage and have allocated huge areas to be reserved as National and Regional Parks. Murcia’s streets are perfect for old Spanish architecture, with local craft shops, museums like the bullfighting and the Bellas Artes museums, local markets packed full of delicious goodies, as well as sights like Murcia Cathedral which has one of the tallest towers in Spain.
