 As anyone who loves the sport will know, Murcia is home to some of Europe's best golf courses and is a must-visit destination for those passionate about playing the game.
One place where players are promised an exceptional game is at the Roda Golf Resort. Located on the Costa Calida, it basks in sunshine for more than 300 days a year and boasts an extensive range of facilities.
Designed by renowned golf architect Dave Thomas, the 18-hole par-72 course features impressive undulating greens, as well as strategically placed bunkers and lakes.
The course is interesting and challenging, yet easy on the eye with its stunning landscaping and mix of native trees and shrubs. What's more, it meets United States Golf Association standards, having been constructed with both the substratum and a drainage system.
Furthermore, the resort boasts impressive green credentials. Roda was the first course in the Murcia region to be awarded with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard. It is also home to the first PGA amateur and professional golf academy outside of the UK.
As a result of an agreement with the PGA, more than 7,000 golfing professionals from across the globe are able to train at Roda during the winter months – a testament to the quality of the course.
However, players of all abilities are catered for at the resort and, as well as the impressive course, there are a range of practice facilities to help players hone their skills.
The PGA Golf Academy offers individual one-to-one lessons, in addition to a range of courses, with players under the expert guidance of senior PGA academy instructor Nicky Lawrenson.
Players will find 16 practice areas dotted around the resort, as well as a state-of-the-art driving range and a number of putting greens.
Guests of the Roda Golf Resort can also make use of the clubhouse, which is situated close to holes one and nine on the course, making it the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing pre or post-game drink.
The facility opens daily from 7am and is home to a spacious changing area, as well as a bar, cafe, restaurant and large outdoor terrace that offers spectacular views of the golf course. In addition, players will find free WiFi access throughout the building.
Furthermore, visitors can also take a stroll around the well-stocked pro shop located within the clubhouse, which offers a wide selection of clothing, footwear and accessories, including balls, tees, visors, polo shirts, gloves and socks. Players can purchase and hire a range of drivers, putters, sand wedges and irons made by the world's leading brands. Golf bags, trolleys and buggies can also be rented within the clubhouse.
The resort operates a standard golf dress code. Polo shirts and high-neck shirts can be worn. However, t-shirts without a collar and sleeves are not permitted, in addition to football and rugby shirts.
During games, players must wear trousers or skirts specifically designed for golf. If shorts are worn, they must cover the knee. Furthermore, no trainers or sandals are permitted and golfers must wear socks with soft spiked shoes.
For discounted golf packages and deals, players are advised to make their bookings online. Any golf round cancellations should be made well in advance in order to avoid late-fee charges.
Guests holidaying at the Roda Resort also have access to the Covera, La Romero, La Peraleja and La Serena golf courses, which are all located within easy reach.
Roda is easily accessible for players travelling from the UK, with a number of budget airlines offering regular services to Murcia Airport.
