Flirting with flamenco at La Manga Club

Flamenco and Spain go hand in hand and La Manga Club is not missing out on this trend. So much so, that they are playing host to one part of the 52nd festival of the Cante de las Minas flamenco foundation. The Cante de las Minas flamenco foundation final takes place in August and the final contestants are in the process of being judged. One of the qualifying galas is scheduled to take place at La Manga Club. Hailed as a really special event, they are proposing a real show-stopping night of food, drink and entertainment to remember. Flamenco and fine dining will go hand in hand for this spectacular event.

Planned to take place at Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe Terrace, the Cante de las Minas qualifying gala promises to be a real spectacle of dance and gourmet cuisine, all rolled into one. Flamenco is a passionate mix of music, song and dance, which originated in Andalusia in the early 1500s, when the gypsies first arrived in Spain. Extremely graceful and dignified, yet super fast, flamenco really hit its popularity highs around the end of the 19th century. Typically associated with guitars, shawls, fans and castanets, it has broadened its reach to the wider population of late and has been taken up by more and more people across the globe.

In fact, over the past few years, this energetic, fast paced genre has seen a real and significant rise in global popularity. Now appreciated well beyond its Spanish roots, flamenco has become particularly popular in Japan, where there is reputed to be more flamenco academies than in Spain itself! These flamenco academies typically welcome real aficionados as well as complete beginners and are a great way to embrace this whole flamenco phenomenon, at the same time as staying fit and meeting new people.

If you fancy flirting with flamenco, either before your holiday or while you’re at La Manga Club, there’s a whole host of classes and clubs throughout the UK as well as a range of DVDs and online learning options to help you out. So, if you don’t fancy flaunting your flamenco in public just yet, simply log online or watch a DVD in the privacy of your own home. A Google search for “flamenco” will give rise to hundreds of thousands of videos and written instructions about flamenco dance movements in general, and will guide you through the basic steps as well as demonstrating toe dance steps. And if you’re more into the musical side than the dance side, there’s also an abundance of flamenco guitar lessons and techniques on offer. All that is possible, in the comfort of your own home, just by doing a simple Google search or buying the right DVD. Amazing!

So, if you’re planning your holiday to La Manga Club and fancy taking a bit more that a spectator interest in flamenco, with a bit of focus and determination, you could be well on the way to clicking your castanets in public by the time your holiday comes around. No matter whether it’s plate smashing in Greece, salsa in Cuba or flamenco in Spain, when you can dance, the world truly is your oyster! Enjoy!
