Horse riding is the perfect activity to take part in whilst on holiday in La Manga, not only is the weather perfect but the scenery is second to none providing beautiful views.
The riding stables are in the local town of Los Belones, only a 5 minute drive or 15 minute cycle. There are over 60 horses and ponies to ride meaning there is a horse perfect for every rider including small children.
There is a huge choice when it comes to the type of ride you wish to take part in, 2 hour and 4 hour hacks out of the stables are available to book for the more competent rider and lessons are available for beginners and children. It is not recommended to take part in the hacks out unless you are a confident rider.
Hacking out is the perfect way to see La Manga, the 2 hour hack takes you into the mountains and across the farm land which surrounds La Manga Club. You may even be able to see your villa or apartment whilst riding. All hacks are accompanied by someone from the riding stables. The 4 hour hack takes you the other direction heading for the beach. You ride across the Calblanque National Park taking in the stunning views. There are a couple of opportunities to canter across the park until you reach the mountains which lead up and over to the sandy beach.
The horses get very excited at this point as they know what is coming. As soon as they get onto the sand they start to jump up and sown until they are told to go by the leaders they begin to gallop along the sand, some go to the water edge and you can feel the sea water on your face. The gallop lasts for about 10 minutes, if you are a keen rider it is sure to be the best 10 minutes of your riding time.
Lessons at the stable yard are for the less experienced rider, lasting between half an hour and an hour. These consist of walking, trotting and cantering with some jumps if wanted. 15 minute lead rein sessions with Shetland ponies are also available for small children.
The journey back from the beach is where you can relax and just take in the beauty of the surrounding areas. When you return to the stable yard everything is taken care of in regards of the horse you were riding, you can leave and enjoy the rest of your holiday.
The best way to book your hack or lesson is to go to the stable yard at the beginning if your holiday and chat to one of the people at the yard. They will be more than happy to discuss any issues you may have and will plan the best ride for you.
