The increase in flights and number of low cost airlines over the past few years has dovetailed with the increase in people arranging their own holiday accommodation overseas.
Many of the low cost budget airlines will not deal with the regular high street travel agent. The outcome was that the more established airlines virtually withdrew from the short haul market and concentrated on long haul flights which proved to be the more lucrative.

The low cost airlines are much more nimble in their activity and are more likely to withdraw flight routes much quicker than the larger more established airlines.
