Over the centuries Zaragoza has played the commercial, economical and settlement hub for the Ebro Valley. The Ebro River carries the largest volume of water and is the longest in all of Spain; it runs the length of the valley and historically divided the Roman North and Carthaginian South of the country. When Rome became more fearful of Hannibal and his growing support they took Saguntum as a protectorate of Rome this town was well south of the River Ebro, this audacious advance was the catalyst which started the Second Punic War. As you can see the area has always been steeped in history, your hire car will mean you get the opportunity to visit it all.
Zaragoza today is one of Spain’s most significant towns it is over 2000 years old and has seen rule from the Old- Iberians, Romans, Goths and Arabians. A visit in your hire car will show you a virtual slide show of every historical period from Spain.

The Piedra Monastery nature area is an oasis in the harsh dry region of central Spain, the park is essentially a forested area dotted with waterfalls and ancient caves.
At the far end of the park where the divided streams come back together again to form one river you will find the impressive Cola de Caballo ('Horsetail') waterfall, a booming torrent of water fifty meters high. In 1859 a group of Farmers discovered a cave behind the waterfall but they couldn’t reach the entrance due to the overwhelming force of the water. Instead, one bright farmer had the idea of digging down from above to access the cave. Today a narrow claustrophobic staircase winds its way through the red clay soils to the cave below. Once inside the cave you are transported to a fairy like grotto, magnificent in scale the cave is lit on one side by the opening to the waterfall, the noise and water vapor from the falls is immense and fills the cave with sparkling crystal droplets everywhere.
