Four x four cars improved by 1958 and sold very well in North America, despite competition from Jeep, Ford and others. In 1970 Land Rover launched by Range Rover with much more comfort for the driver and passengers.
The Range Rover became the important vehicle to be produced by Land Rover. It had a powerful V6 engine from Buick. There was massive luggage space and the ability to tow a caravan or other vehicle.
Four x fours were not very economical to run as they use a lot of fuel and energy to run In spite of this they sold very well and continue to be very popular today. In 1989 Rover launched the Discovery, it is an excellent vehicle having great success in Britain.
The Discovery was a new product aimed at a sophisticated market. It was much more expensive than the Range Rover. Most Discoveries’ are diesel powered. It is a versatile car carrying five adults in comfort plus their luggage. It makes an excellent for a family car.
Four x four continued to improve into the 90’s when the Defender was introduced, I sold very well all over the world. Four x four cars still sell very well and are getting increasingly well. |
